    Warranty voided, absolutely.
Safe, seems to be, lots of positive results so far.
    Legal, nowhere near.
Sound, not from what I've heard. Sound is all handled by the resonator at the rear axle.

Any ECU tuning can easily void your warranty, it comes down to the warranty claim and if the dealer can use the fact it is tuned to lay blame. An ECU tune isn't going to void a faulty seat, but if the turbo goes kapow, well, I think it's only fair to expect you may be on your own there. The cheaper tunes tend to be FAR more obvious to dealers, the better ones aren't. The main brands you read about seem to have very stable products and the chances of a problem are remote in the 125kw as it's designed to handle extra heat and thus power over the 103kw. In your shoes, with your car's age, I'd be asking if the ECU flash counter increses with the tune, thus waving a red flag to anyone with half a brain and simple scanning tools let alone what a dealer can do.

So what are the enviro regulations on Euro cars?

Do they have to comply to their original spec or just Ausi reg's?

Do you know of any tunes that don't effect the flash counter?

Actually this ECU being an EDC17 might have one of the newer Tricore anittuning processors so it may be an ECU out job initially. you would have to check the counter would be reset during the process anyway
