Can someone please tell me if the ECU from a 2002 Passat # 4BO 906 018 DF is compatible with my # 4BO 906 018 CM?
They are both the same year but not sure if I can swap, as I can get the DF with GIAC chip for a great price.

We have immobilisers here so the ECU, even if compatible, wouldn't be a straight swap.

The ECU can be de-immo'd quite easily; the question is what emissions related systems are missing from your car that exists on the american models. This means you could get slightly odd idle/warmup behaviour, ie. with the missing secondary air injection; you could perhaps not have post-cat O2 sensors when the american ECU expects it, etc. it's not that simple to do.
Being an ME7.5 ECU; the 4BO 906 018 CM is very easy to tune - you should probably get in touch with various tuners to see what they would charge you for an ECU remap for these. Feel free to contact me if you'd be interested in a DNA Tuning upgrade for it, cheers. It may work out to not be much more than purchasing an ECU from another car/region and also less of a hassle as the upgrade is carried out easily over your OBD port and ensures compatibility.

As it's ME7, I don't see there's any point in you going to the trouble of defeating the immobiliser in another ECU, which might or might not run your car properly. Most tuners, me included can bench flash that ECU if you shipped it to them. I make that comment as you are in Townsville which is pretty remote.
