I have run a few different set ups over the years, KJET with a modified air box and big bore induction piping, Twin downdraught 40mm webbers, Twin sidedraught 40mm webbers. You will make slightly more with the webbers compared to KJET, though tuning the webbers i found was tricky and even with them running sweet the spark plugs still carboned up. KJET for the street is the go, good power, good fuel economy, but even saying that webbers sound sooooo awesome at 7000rpm

Hey Grant, pretty sure the cabby is an earlier one, early 80s I am guessing as it still has the plastic later bumpers not clipper kit and so on. These are the tanks to use right?

I bought that 274 Speco cam off ebay and am going to buy some stiffer valve springs, a adj cam gear and shaft pully so it should give it a little more go. I have decided on K-Jet btw

Its an 81 model, goes well, I would try it first Cam.
Its a biggish job changing the cam with the shim adjustment.

How big a job? I actually bought the cam for the current engine until I get the heron in but was thinking I could use it. What headwork did you say the engine had? I got the go ahead from the 'finance minister' btw, come on Mr Rudd, give me my $900.

The head was overhauled approx 3-4000 kms ago.
The car ran like a clock, started first pop everytime and revved like anything.
In a standard Golf which is lighter it would be even better!

It should be a bit of fun, can't wait! Wanted the 16v but I think I would never have used it to its full advantage, the Heron will have just enough go go for me. Maybe Ill mod it a bit, we will see. What makes it hard with changing the cam Andrew? What exactly does Shim adjustment mean? Ahhh noobishness

Yeah, should be the one... diesel one is the same.

Pic of a later style tank...

and line drawing of the early one..
    Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

    Cheers,
    Grant...
