Red face Help pleeease... with my mk3 vr6 golf...

    Heys guys,

I'm a new owner of a 94 mk3 vr6 golf and ive had the joy of running a muck on the streets of sydney with it for a while now till about 3 weeks ago when it just died it would start and had no lights or anything. now i'm not good with cars but i figured it was the battery so i got a brand new one now every thing electrical is working but mechanically it wont start at all not a sound comes from it when i turn the key... then i figured it was the starter but i managed too roll start it so it mustnt be right..?? theres also a light on the dash flickering saying IN 02 not sure if that has anything to do with it but its always been there since i got it...

can anyone give me any tips to try or things to look for that may get it on the road asap..??

Thanks alot any help would be awesome

    Cheers

IN02 is just a service indicator, so nothing to worry about.

If you can Roll/push start it, it very well could be the starter is busted. Where about in Sydner are you? Let us know where you are and we can point you towards the closest reputable mechanic (update your profile with your location or you will be asked alot ).

update your profile with your location

    Welcome to the forum.

    Dould be the ignition switch.

Id turn the key till you get reds, then with a rubber handled screwdriver or rubber handled grips, hotwire across the starter terminals and car should start.

Make sure its not in gear by the way...

If it starts like that, its ignition switch.
If so, it may also start if you lift the key whilst trying to start it.

If you can bridge a wire and make the starter work, the starter is clearly fine and you have a problem with the ignition switch.

Manual VR6 starter is hard to find and expensive.

If you wanted to drive to Campbelltown on a woirk day, I`d be happy to diagnose / fix it for you.

I have a few manual VR6 starters , I dont think they are that rare ?
make sure the terminals on the battery are making full contact and check the wiring to the starter and the earthing on the battery and also on the body of the gearbox

Take it to an autoelectrician to get it reconditioned, only takes a few hours and they come with warranty too!
