I'm no expert on carbs but use to have 32/36 on a Ford RS2000. There are a few things you make sure are correct when tuning that carb.
1. Float level should be correct as if to low will run to lean and to high could flood/flow over into and stall the motor.
2. Do you have the correct linkage as if its to quick acting you could get what you discribbing as the card reacts quicker then the motor can and could stall for a split second.
3. Cannot remember if that card has a pump yet but you could reduce the size.
I eventually switched to a 36 dcd.
