The main reason i think the mk3 would go better is that its not running digi. From what i have heard running the 2l block with the 1.8 head is good, can't speak form experience though.
Hey everyone
At the moment my mk2 is running a 2Ltr block (2E) with the original 1.8 head. I bought the car like this and the guy i bought it off said that he kept the 1.8 head there so he didn't have to change the injection system. Now heres my questions:
Is This correct?
Can i do this with the digifant thats in the mk2 at the moment? (i wont bother doing it if i have to change the injection system over)
Whats involved in putting the 2ltr head on? (i have one sitting here already) is it just an aftermarket fuel rail to obtain the digi injection on the mk2?
Is it worth doing performance wise? Time isn't an issue. I've driven a mk3 2ltr and IMO it goes better than my Mk2 at the moment.
Will i have to use the Mk3 or Mk2 inlet manifold?
Thanks for your time.

Don't put the 2L head on it, the 1.8 GTI head flows better than the 2L head will.
I have run a 2 litre bottom end with 1800 head in a mk1 GTI. No point whatsoever fitting the mk3 head, as you'll have to swap over the injection system to make it work and that's just too much work.
As for whether the 1800 head outflows the 2 litre I wouldn't expect there to be any difference.

How about getting your 1.8 head a big valve jobby and flowed like the CNC heads in the UK ?

They definately make the number's both in the port's & especially in your hip pocket.
Approx $3000AUD outright + Tax & shipping.
That's abit much for a 8V Cyl. head IMHO.
Then you'd have to match that with compression, cam, intake, fueling timing & exhaust etc.
I'd build a 16VT.
Still if you had to run to class guidelines then this would be an option as it look's like a excellent piece of gear.
Couldnt it be done here ? Something similar.

Not to that level & probably not anywhere near the flow number's & consistancy between port's & cyl.'s
I'd say that that price has all the development work & machinery cost built into it.
