Got myself a downpipe with 100 cell cat so I could use my stage 2 tune. However my mechanic said that it won't fit unless he also removes the stock resonator. This seemed a little weird to me as all of my research pointed to the fact that the Mk6 GTI and Scirocco R OEM exhausts were identical (even part numbers from Milltek are the same), and it should be a pretty straightforward bolt on.
Let me try and explain this a little better with pictures.
Stock exhausts, notice the Scirocco R exhaust has the resonator where the mid section that came with the downpipe now sits, while the Mk6 GTI has the resonator in the twisty bit:
And here's the issue he ran into during the install because of the resonator location:
Final installation:
Has anyone else experienced this before? The exhaust is now pretty obnoxiously loud for not having the resonator so I'm going to get him to fit it back in next week. Hopefully it fits where the stock Mk6 GTI resonator is located (in the twisty bit).
Interested in what people's thoughts are on this...!
Put the stock resonator into the position that the Mk6 GTI has it, and sounds great. Hopefully this helps Scirocco R owners looking to fit downpipe only with stock catback.
