    I don't know if anyone actually agreed to do any of this in reality. Theres a lot of unknowns and it would be very hard to be consistent or even fair to both sides. The time is takes for the custom tune would be the killer. I don't know about BPS but in my case its not uncommon for the tune to take more than one day some stuff even weeks !!!!. so you'd be working real hard to get it all done in one day. Its not just the usual single ~20 minute Flash job required by the rest..... although of late I wish it was

    BPS is in;
    I have a DYNO that can be used in full shoot out mode, so no fudge factor here. For a full optimisation of a fully stock MED9.5 golf R I would need 2 hours plus ecu read/write time. The reason I asked about the internet connection was to show what the human doing the actual code was capable of. I have never underestimated the abilities of Brisbane based VW/Audi operations. My argument is how people can describe themselves as "tuners" if they cannot carry out the entire operation without the aid of the third parties. I know AMD/REVO/APR/EVO/EVOMS produce very well finished software upgrades. My real argument is let’s see ### or *** actually read the code, import this into a hex editor, translate the map areas. Create the tuned file and re-write the file using tools they have the knowledge to use. Many of the companies don’t even allow the "tuner" the original file in .bin format only.pak or .tun.

    I believe that when we do this shootout the results would be very close. You can only turn things up so far before the handle falls off
    However the reason I would be happy to do it would be to show vehicle owners that there are real people who can do this. I had the great honour of knowing one of the first ever ECU tuners Mr Geoff Everett of AMD. The first time I saw an emulator being used I was hooked. I have travelled to Germany to learn new software and hardware; I have been all over Asia and Dubai to tune vehicles, ranging for GM to Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche BMW, VW etc. All these vehicle's were tuned using my brain and my software and some information gained over the years.

    I have a huge amount of respect for Guy_H I have never meet him but a good customer of mine knows him well. He said he is a top bloke so he must be. As far as I know he has always shown me the same level of respect I have given him. I look forward to meeting him in the flesh.
    Let the battle of acronyms begin lol APR v BPS v all the others!!

    You know the real winners of this is you the customer, competition makes us all work harder and keener. Now I must get back to the dyno, BMW E46 with MS43 factory ecu, customer has fitted a very large Garrett turbo and 100% larger injectors, oh joy.

    I agree with james928 the winners here are the customers cos of all the tunners hard work and hours they have spent developing their products and time spent with each car we all come out on top

    you would use a base map you have made for an R and then just fine tune it for specific to that engines individual tolerances.

    It's would not take weeks, or days. It should take you no more than around 3 hours at tops.

    Unless your learning it or don't have a base map in which case then it could take a whole day.

    This shows me how little you actually know about the Euro stuff seriously if you dont understand something just don't post as though you have some knowledge on the subject. Even with the Subaru stuff I would spend most of the day tuning it - I keep going until I'm satisfied that its right and safely tuned to the customers requirements. If a tune takes an hour that's great if it takes a week so be it. Some are even longer . This particular remap being mentioned is starting from scratch it is not using a 'premade' basemap. I know exactly what is required in order to get the tuning process underway.

    Now where in the thread do I indicate that I would participate ? These guys are in QLD for a start . My time is very limited I simply don't have the time unfortunately. Full credit to James though
