The ET (which you are referring to) is an indication of how good the driver can get the car off the line. And yes, manual/DSG would be a key factor.
It does actually - having owned both manual & DSG Golf R's (and Golf 6's), the manual has a much lower trap than a DSG - you lose so much through the gear changes that it knocks the top end down dramatically. Now if you ran it over 1000 metres, then it would even out, but 1/4 mile - your kidding sorry - its the same as the 0-100 problem.

Obi-wan, Meet the Infamous Corey!!! Wow, your going to get a hell of an infraction for that one! I got 6 points for saying what i thought of him in a polite way! LOL

I just want to thank you as you have made my morning!
Thanks for the complement mate but I'm no Obi-Wan, faaaaaarrrrrr from it. Yes this is my 2nd infraction, very funny points system, got to have a laugh at it. Glad I made your morning, probably won't be the last..........sometimes you just have to tell it how it is

Paul did a custom tune on my 06 XT (the first he did) not long after I got it

I know he has done a few GTIs

With his extensive background at MRT and in the international racing scene, he certainly has the skills

I am not interested in tuning my R but he may be a useful contact

A really nice guy as well
There certainly has been a push towards the euro scene in the last year or so from TUNERS. Another fellow up at Toowoomba with a very good histroy, Michael from OPM, has recently got hold of an R as well I hear.

So you're saying a stock DSG running 97mph will be 91mph in a manual?

probably at least 5mph in it

Additionally... you could hardly claim they have slick marketing. Their lack of marketting, or even keeping their website up to date, is one of my complaints about them! I mean... how long ago did the MK6 Golf come out? Update your site *cough*

Anyway. I know the custom tuners are lifting their game. People like Mark (parso_rex) from Recode and John from DNA Tuning are doing good work, especially Mark with the R's.

And btw... the wheel alightment/camber/caster discussion had already taken place once or twice. Guy_H, WhiteJames, and a few other poeple with R's taked about it on one occassion that I can recall. Maybe people are just tired of having to answer the same questions to people who start several threads rather than using the search?

In any case. The R comes setup pretty well from stock for road purposes, and beyond that, it doesn't have the means to adjust camber and caster with the stock components. You need to swap to aftermarket parts to do so...

For Sydney people, another fellow to look out for if he started tuning VW's would be Michael South who's located on the central coast. He's just moved into a new workshop after some years working out of his backyard shed
