I think most of the horror stories are from people with a specific tune for the water/meth which is pushing their engine to the absolute limit, and then they either run out of meth while having a race etc or use a lesser quality meth etc and then the engine goes bang.

If i did it, then i would still run a normal tune, and run the water/meth as an add-on. The benefits wont be as great as a specific meth tune, but i wont have to worry about the tank running low and/or damaging the engine.

I also thought the tourqe was a little low on that dyno above. My car on the 2wd APR dyno (Hub) made 462nm and on APC awd Dyno Dynamics made about 425Nm.

My problem is trying to get a good 1/4 mile time. Struggling at the moment. You been back to the strip Shane (forgive spelling)?
Id say your torque on the AWD dyno is about right. When i say about right, i mean it lines up with other Golf R figures that were seen at the Sydney dyno day earlier this year. Most of the R's with a HPFP specific tune and dump/intake/intercooler were seeing 200-210kw and 400-420nm. There was one freak Golf R that did 220kw (KRA21E) on a custom tune.

Otherwise, if you use it to ensure that you don't lose power, due to high AITs then you'll be ok.

Exactly Gavin. I wouldnt want to have a specific w/m tune for this very reason.

I believe that is the case.. you have to specifically tune your car to water/meth injection to have any serious dramas about running out of meth/water.
If you just use it in a passive manner you still get the benefits of chilled intake temp, and your onboard ecu actomatically adjusts. i'm no expert but i think thats the case???

There's no point in going the water meth path unless you have the timing modified to suit and this tune is very conservative in that regard so its not a worth while option. The good news is that atm we are working with Superchips UK on a localised modified file for use here for Aus customers who have purchased our specific hardware pack. This is so we know that the hardware combination is a good one and suitable for the higher spec file.

The 195atw ish figure (my car with that stage 3 file is round 193atw) is very solid with almost zero knock retard and if anything a slightly rich mixture so there is easily room to bump this up by a worthwhile amount. Locally I will still push our R1 or R2 tune options but I have received too many requests from the interstate guys to ignore so that's the plan - its the best thing for me as I'm very time poor atm and I don't have to support it software wise . Its still a way off but we have one car in the workshop atm with this very kit fitted and the tune being tweaked accordingly, another car is coming along next tuesday with an identical configuration for the same treatment so it is finally going ahead

Oh another handy thing worth knowing for some the flash counter will read 0 after the flash but they wont guarantee it nor even mention it anymore but I know that it now does it correctly or rather it has on any car that I've done recently, (if you have one that's what the little back and forth dance at the end of the flash is doing).

p.s Torque figures mentioned above (derived torque) are pretty much line ball with what you will see on a mainline 4th gear 10kmph/sec ramp and you can't compare any of the other brands with these figures either
