Any chance of a vid so we can all hear it?
I've just installed the VWR panel filter in my new Golf 6 GTI (a big thanks to Ian from Rennenhaus for his speedy service). Veeery simple to put in as expected.
I took the car for a quick strap round the local streets and whilst most say you dont feel a difference from a panel filter, I certainly felt more pull on accellaration. The car was noticeably more responsive as well. The best part though is the new exhaust note. It sounds amazing. That was my biggest issue with the Golf GTI, you just can't really hear it.... but now, hell yes!
Definitely a worthwhile mod and for the $110+shipping Ian is currently offering it for, it's barely a dent in the budget.
Now I'm just waiting 'til next week for my VMR V710 19's to go on, car to be Superchipped and a modified intake installed. Happy days!
Cheers,
Rhys

i'll see what i can do. last time i tried to video my cars sounds from inside all you could hear was road noise and wind blowing. the camera seemed to pick up all the wrong noises. i have HD video recording on my new camera so it might work a lot better. if i remember tomorrow i'll give it a go for you.

Another thumbs up to the filter as well. Torque from 0 - 2000 rpm feels smoother and a and then after 2000 it is noticeably better than stock. I think that the material combined with removing the dodgy stock grille at the bottom of the air box means that there is a lot more air and a easier path to the filter.
Also thanks to Ian from Rennenhaus. Quick and great service.
Has anyone tried these panel filters on the other engines in the MKVI?
I have seen them advertised for the 1.4 TSI but all seem to be for the 118TSI...and I have the 90TSI.
If you have had a look at the intake to the 90TSI...it well...looks odd..inefficient etc and I was thinking maybe a panel filter and a modded intake might help things along

I have just got this installed on my car, thankfully I didn't have any expectations for something costing only $130 inc. delivery. There was no difference, sound and performance is the same. Maybe I need to drive it harder.

You should note that any changes is sound would be coming from the intake itself rather than the exhaust. In saying that, I'm surprised that such a noticeable difference in sound could be had from just a filter? I have an aftermarket CAI (including filter) and the increase in sound is quite minimal - My opinions aside, glad to hear you're so happy with the purchase!

I agree with you completely DDTW. When i installed the Carbonio on my R, i was expecting a lovely induction noise together with increased turbo whistle...........but instead, no change in induction noise (from what i could tell anyway) and perhaps 10% increase in turbo whistle.....lucky it looks porn because i was a little disappointed otherwise.
