So, here is the problem...

The exhaust manifold that came with the ABF has a crack in it, and one of the two front pipes is squashed...I also have the standard catalytic convertor...

Should I;

A - use this setup as is
B - try and fix the crack and not worry about the squished bit
C - take manifold, front pipe, and cat to an exhaust shop for them to make extractors...

As far as option C goes, what would it roughly cost me, and are there any places in the inner eastern melbourne suburbs that can be recommended???

It`ll work as is for testing purposes. The problem you have with the exhaust shop scenario is that they want the whole car. The ones in Sydney will not make me up extractors from a manifold and a piece of pipe. They want the whole car with or without an exhaust on it. That way they get the curves etc right and can make sure it doesnt rub. $350 I could get that job done for in Sydders. Good Luck.

If you have the head off and a piston out and the exhaust stuffed I would say you got a lemon

ps weld up original 16v manifold and use your 2.0 8valve downpipe.

Is your downpipe the one with 6 bolts holding it to the manifold?
You can use that with a 16v manifold as Golfwise says.

Well, the head came off and piston out due to the motor having unknown history...Considering that, i don't mind driving around on a rebuilt motor...

It's my 8v front pipe that's squished, and the 16v manifold that is cracked... I saw this crack when i was inspecting the combo, before purchase!!

Never the less, I understand that the 16v manifold mates to my 8v front pipe...

Where's the postives guys?? I'm not retarded, and for no previous motor mechanic experience, and never having pulled a motor apart, let alone out of a car with ancilleries to worry about, i think i'm doing pretty well!

I didn't mean to sound harsh ,I thought you had pulled the motor down because there was a problem with it.These are normally bullet proof motors and will do a high mileage.
Don't forget if you are rebuilding it that they will need new conrod, head bolts as they are stretch bolts.
I'd have a good G3 down pipe here if its needed.
The ABF exhaust manifold is quite efficient too and you can take or leave your cat as local rules dictate.

Has anyone fitted Supersprint Headers to their Golf ? Is it a proper fit ?

I have read in other forums that they dont fit right on RHD cars. Is it important to heat wrap the headers ?

I was told most of them don't fit RHD setups by the dealer in Europe The Mk1 Golf 16v manifold will fit, but it's stupidly overpriced...as is anything made by them if you buy it locally!!

I got a price from Carshine for the Mk1 manifold a while back and, IIRC it was about $1200. What a joke. Their prices are just bollocks. It's not even stainless steel either - just a polished ceramic finish like my own Eurosport manifold, which is awesome and cost 700 less!!

That's right about the Supersprint manifolds, which is unfortunate as they look proper sexy.

There is a Uk firm called Ashley that do a 16V in to a MK1. Which is cheap and does fit as I have done a conversion myself with one.

Not especially beatiful to look at like the SS one but did the job.

I wrapped it with some of that fibreglass tape stuff and sprayed it black with heat resistant paint.

The other way I have seen it done is using the std cast manifold and flexy joint with a mk1 down pipe cut and welded on. Looked awful though.
