Eurospec Skoda Yeti TDi Tune in Balcata Perth WA

I took my Yeti in for a service yesterday and had been set on getting Ross tech VCDS unit. A little bit of a back story, I have moved down from Darwin in March and getting anything done up in Darwin is near impossible except for getting VW to do there rubbish service work there. No other choice.

I had dropped into see Phil after a hearing about him here. I was pretty happy with his knowledge of the VW range and he was happy to share any info I needed. I was convinced he'd look after my Yeti for it service.

So now having Phil around, I figure I no longer need VCDS so I had some cash spare.

It didn't take long for Phil to talk me into the tune. I was expecting the standard sort of generic stage one tune. The type that has been worked out to work with a standard unmodified engine that are all the same. I was pretty impressed when I came back early to find my Yeti on the Dyno. He has some guy in Brisbane who tweeks the tune specifically for your vehicle. I'm sure they have a generic stage 1 tune to start with but then he does a Dyno run to see if they can make a little more here or there and make sure it's making what it's meant to. I was very impressed.

His workshop is well equipped with all the usual hoists and stuff. I didn't know he even had a Dyno when I dropped the car off. It's actually built into the floor of the workshop. I haven't seen a Dyno like that before. All that I have seen have been above floor.

He is a bit OCD about making sure everything is right. He said he doesn't like to talk to people when he is working as it distracts him and he doesn't want to miss anything. He did ask me to call him about lunch time to see how he was traveling but I live about 45 minutes drive from Balcatta and I didn't have much else to kill time so I walked back and figured I'd just wait. He didn't complain but he run through everything he did a couple of times to make sure he hadn't missed anything.

As for the tune. Well It's awesome. Now I want a DSG Tune. The little diesel just hauls, especially in 3rd (why I want the DSG tune). It didn't take me long to work out to get the best feeling from it, it'd best not to tromp it straight off. Pull away and let it shift 1st, 2nd quickly (zip, zip) then when it hits 3rd, put it down quickly but not to quickly to cause it to drop back to 2nd again. Then it just takes off.

I haven't asked Phil yet but from the prices I've found posted online, the DSG is a bit too expensive for me at the moment. Looks like I'll just have to drive it in "M".

Fuel wise it seems better too, so far. I keep all my fuel records of Fuelly.com so time will tell but I know dash usually says between 6 - 7L/100km and the trip from Balcatta to home in Jane Brook ended with 6.2L/100km and that's with a few good squirts as you have to with a new tune. I reset it dash when I left Balcatta as it said 7.8L/100km obviously after a couple of Dyno runs.

Oh, Almost forgot. He fitted some Bilstein B6 shocks for me too. I spoke with him the first time around and I guess he it didn't take him long to work out I'd been shopping around for the shocks. He said straight up honest, he could ring around his suppliers but he probably still couldn't beat a price I would find online. He wasn't offensive about it. I was happy he just told me straight up he probably couldn't beat it. If I didn't want to take the effort myself, I'm sure he'd would have sourced them for me but they'd cost me a little more. I fitted the rears myself and I should have done the fronts myself as well but for what he charged me for him to do it, it wasn't worth it for me to stuff around, rolling around my driveway for half a day or longer. He didn't have a problem fitting something I'd sourced myself either.

I should add. While I felt Phil doesn't like to be distracted while he is working. When he is not working, he is more than happy to talk about anything VW group related you want to. Actually even when he's working he'll keep talking. As I said about the shocks, he isn't doing a sales pitch, just giving you info.

I appreciate he will let you into his workshop too. I hate how the dealers take your car away and won't let you see what they are doing to it. I'm get pretty paranoid they have something to hide which is usually bad. Phil has nothing to hide and he'll advise you what needs to be done.
