    engine mod help

    Hi guys-
    need some help and advise please

    i recently built a 2 ltr 16v motor with high comp pistons - throttle bodies- head and cam job-

    KW output on the front wheels was 145

    i have just sold that motor and now building a 2 ltr 8v

    what need help on is what piston can i use to get the compression up and to make good power

    the head is gas flowed and ported and the cam is cut to 288 deg.

    Im wondering that myself.. why drop the 16v for an 8 valve?
    76 MkI 3 door - daily drive/project - 1.8 5speed

    R u going to be running pump full? Fuel injectored or cardbies?

    Bit more info... Oh and BTW backwards step

    Hey dude,

    You are much better off to deck the head rather than use high comp pistons.

    The domed crown tends to cause detonation because it causes the flame to burn towards the outer edge of the cylinder.

    Use standard pistons and talk to an engine shop about taking a bit off the head. They can work out how much is needed to be taken off.

    If you want to run pump fuel, i'd suggest not going any more than 11.5/1 comp.

    Why an 8v though? I mean seriously.

    Say u get the head skimmed what are the options then if u want to go turbo? Does that mean custom pistons (rather then off the shelf stuff) will have to be the way to go then?
