    ecu flash questions

    few questions.
    1. why people worry about warranty with flashes? can't you simply revert it back to stock mapping?

    2. does ecu flashing have extra equipments installed in your car? if so, can they be easily removed before bringing to dealer?

    3. ecu flashing, requires a tuner to perform the task or can be done by yourself. i saw the superchip posts, they talk about plug in to computre to download maps???

    4. after ecu flash, does it require a dyno tuning? to tune according to your specs of the car? or is it just a generic flash for all stock cars?

    1) The flash can be swapped back to stock but if the dealer can tell it has been done then it could void warranty of parts as they can say you just changed it back to stock after the issue arose.

    2) No extra equipment is installed for a stage 1 tune.

    3) Superchips allows reflashing the ecu via a bluefin device on certain vehicles.
Most other require the supplier (APR etc) to flash the car for you.

    4) No dyno tuning is required as the flash's are pre-tested and shouldn't vary much if at all.

Not all companies offer the ability to revert to stock tune from a preset file (like APR) or a hand held controller (Giac / Superchips).

The concern is if you break something and they can see the cars ECU has been altered, they may void your warranty, its a fair concern.

Chipping is a re-coding, used to be you would replace the chip itself, but I think this process is long gone...

Most flashes are 'off the shelf', so no tuning offered. Some tuners offer some customisation to your specific vehicle (eg Custom Code)

    ok. thanks for the reply.
pls correct me if im wrong.

    1. bluefin(superchip) can install and load the map by yourself using cable.

    2. apr can only be flashed by tuner.

    3. apr does not have extra equipment...meaning all they do is flash the ECU and no diagnostic tool or handheld tools will be left with the car.

im not sure if you guys are familiar with japanese import cars.
but i had a nissan 180sx and that had powerfec on it, which had a controller with it.
so that's what i meant by extra equipments.
