Heck, souvlaki would have been better than what I got !

At least I tried, I hope I havn't stuffed something up though, like something expensive. My gut said it wouldn't work although I've learnt one valulable lesson today:

DON'T BOTHER TRYING TO MAKE YOUR 2.0L FASTER BY RELATIVELY CHEAP MEANS, ITS FREAKIN SLOW AND NOTHING IS GOING TO CHANGE THAT, SO GET USED TO IT OR SAVE UP FOR A FASTER CAR!

    ...oh and F*** Ebay!

Ahem... who is this ever so knowledgeble person, PT Barum by the way?

    HUZZAH!

All good now, the tech guy missed an arm on the chip. The car's working thankfully.

Now another problem, I noticed that the chip I got looked almost the same as the one I pulled out. So... are they the same thing? Are they different? The rear bumper's off so I can't drive it atm. Curiously the rev limiter has not changed whatsoever and still remains at 5000 rpm.

I'll give it a blast tommorow once I finish with the bumper. At least it works lol...

Probably not, If I notice a difference in throttle response or something then yeah that'll probably be the end of it. Oh and the guy can make chips to almost any specification, its a generic programmable chip that VW used and a similar chip can be updated changed and even copied. He told me he can adjust the fuel injection pressure and air/fuel mixtures, rev limiters and a whole bunch more, even psi.

Bigger injectors and a massive throttle body anyone?

Just ask him and he'll do it to your required specification for no extra cost, seems like a cool guy to be honest. 50-70 bucks seems like a pretty good deal for a custome made chip. He didn't move the limiter on mine which was a bit dissapointing but then again I didn't ask ...

    WA chipper

The guy in WA is David Abetz and is setting up a website at

    www.wasuperchips.com.au

His details are there. He was at the WA VW Show said the biggest effect is on the 2.0 TDi. I grabbed some fliers and I also saw JansJetta talking to him.

He does the change then you drive it for a week. If you like it you pay, if not then he changes it back.

Hey Golfworx - like your sig - one of my fav car films (Running On Empty) - well, after Mad Max 1 & 2 or course.

First saw it on video back in '86 - quite possibly before you were born and back when a mint Phase 3 could be had for around $35,000 (Grrrrrrrrrr)

I met Deborah Conway at a gig last year and told her I loved the shower scene - she rolled her eyes and said she occasionally cops that from petrol heads!

Not bad. Not a massive difference, but you can feel it after 3000. Not much difference before 2, but after about 3-5 you can realy notice it. The throttle repsonse is better and the car pulls alot better on roads about 70 or more, the pull in third at that speed is realy nice and torquey now.

So yeah At first I didn't notice much difference but after I drove it on the highway, up to the city and bit further north. Its nothing like a chipped 1.8T but just see it as an improvement when covering ground quicker, I noticed this when driving paralell to 99_gti's mk4 GTi on the cumberland flogging it in third.

The question... was it worth it?
$71 and a bit of a nightmare install? Yes but just. If I would of have had a cam in there the car would have benefitted alot more particularily from an increase in the rpm, pity I never asked for it though.

So yeah Ebay mod chips, not as bad as they make them out to be and this guy is pretty good,

I salute you George Koustis, Mr Souvlaki superchips man!
