It wasn't the easiest thing to do....haha.
The Golf R engine is the older FSI design (from the MK5 GTi generation) and uses the older Bosch MED9 ECU which is tunable via the OBD. In my case, i bought the DNA Tuning hand controller and uploaded the tune myself which is handy.
The Tigs, Octavia vRS's and Mk6 GTI's etc are all the newer generation TSI engine and use a newer ECU (i think its a Bosch MED17) which seems to be OBD tunable in some cases but not in others. Some people on here with MK6 GTIs and Octy vRS's have been able to use tools like the Bluefin to tune their car, others haven't. Seems that some ECU's are encrypted and some aren't and its luck-of-the-draw.
Ah, that explains it - mine is definitely one of the encrypted ones (as are most of the late 2010 onwards Tigs it seems)

By far in a way the biggest bank-for-buck difference is going from stock to a Stage 1 tune (regardless of tuner company). Then the addition of a downpipe and intake made another noticeable jump in power (and this was how the car was dyno'd in my 1st post - stage 1 DNA tune + downpipe + intake). Because the car had such a strong figure with these basic mods (204kw/354nm), there wasn't a massive difference in the addition of the HPFP, intercooler and stage 3 tune - although if you try and compare the two graphs, the car is making about 5-6kw more pretty much all the way through the rev range. The peak torque is about 25nm higher, and holds consistently higher all the way to redline.
I actually asked DNA to turn my boost down a little bit, as it was a bit high for my liking, and this is how the car was run on the dyno a month or so ago when it made 208kw and 380nm. So with a another few PSI of boost, there would be a little more power/torque to be had (not much, but a little).
The car is pretty much at the safe limit of the turbo now.
Is the power noticeable? Well yes - it goes like a little rocket now. The wave of torque is awesome and addictive. It's got alot more power than stock thats for sure. Still gets excellent fuel economy providing you don't drive like a goose. Im getting around 10L/100km average which is almost 100% city driving. On a recent road trip down south it averaged 8.2L/100km on the open road.
I haven't tested the 0-100kph since doing the latest changes, but i will do it soon and post up the results. Given that mines a manual, it's the change to 3rd gear to reach 100kph that hurts the 0-100kph times, but i would be hoping for 5.5seconds or so. You could easily take a second off that time for a DSG vehicle using launch control.
I'm still yet to pull the trigger on the stage 1 tune, but thanks for the infoSeems like intake+dp+tune is a good level to get it to without going crazy.

I noticed in your comment that your stage 1 tune was running quite a boost setting, and that in your stage 3 you wound this back. What was the level that you wound back to, in order to get what you considered to be a safe boost level for the K04?
Reason I ask is I'm thinking of using John and the guys at DNA for the tune for my Pirelli

Hi Andy - i logged the car after the tune and found that the boost was spiking (as these turbos do) up to about 27-28psi at around 3,000rpm before settling down to around 23psi.
John assured me that the boost pressure was ok, but i asked if it could be turned down a notch for peace of mind.
It now hits about 25-26psi max and then settles on about 21-22psi throughout the rest of the rev range.
Definetly worth a try for your Pirelli, the prices are great and they do a strong tune.
Yeah pretty hard to avoid boost spike with lots of turbo charged cars in my experience, so I can see why you've opted to wind back a touch.
I have emailed John previously and he's mentioned your car as a reference point for what can be achieved with this engine via DNA and yeah as you've rightly pointed out the price is compelling when compared to the rivals. Its interesting that they hadn't yet done a Pirelli in Aus though when I spoke to him - plenty of S3's and a few R's but no Pirellis
