    how much for each (roughly).

    Any alternatives to the Autotech?
No the FPRV is not mandatory and most tuning companies (incl DNA) do not specify that it needs to be upgraded to the RS4 version. But its cheap (about $80) and allows another 4 bar of pressure in the fuel lines before it opens.

As for alternatives to the Autotech, none really that have sold in the same quantities with such a good reliability record. KMD tuning make one, HPFP upgrade make one and APR.

What Lucas said. John from DNA also confirmed what Lucas said that the FPRV isn't mandatory by any means. He doesn't even run one on his race car DNA Tuning: VW Golf R dyno results and feedback

A quick search implies the tsi engine has an adequate HPFP for stage 1 & 2 tunes. yes/no?

The TSI engine uses a different HPFP design which does not need to be upgraded - even with k04 and bigger turbos. But the HPFP used in the older design FSI engines are not as efficient, hence the upgrade.
