This is a very, very brief overview of how it works and at the end of the day, it comes down to personal decisions in head office (and discussion with the service advisor). All APR dealers are well schooled up on how exactly it works, so if you have any issues, contact them directly!
Hi Guy. I see. So in summary, some cars flag it, some don't. In essence, the stock setting via cruise control is no longer completely undetectable via the new VAS software, however, it all depends on the dealer attitude etc if they bother to officially report it (hence my query on why they would not tell you when servicing the car in the first place the warranty is void).

Unfortunately you can no longer rely on stock "modes" - this includes hand held flashing devices. It does still vary model to model, but I think by 2014 and the replacement (phase out) of some of the current ECU families that they will all have this feature built in.

Our suggestion is still to have it serviced away from the dealer when ever possible. No point in giving them money for services that may effect your rights later on - better spending it with someone who will look after you.

hey Dave, you have PM. The upgrade is from Oettinger - 285kw & 880nm. They go nicely - we have done a few in the Q7's & they are stealth rockets.

Can you please explain why the tune for a mk vi gti, even when on sale, costs over twice what the same product in the USA costs despite the dollar having been on parity with the us dollar for the past twelve months.

    Thanks very much.

It gets done to death at least every 6 months chief. Won't take you long to search for it and get the answer.

You can of course google a handful of cheaper alternatives all located within 30 minutes of Brisbane CBD.

There is a difference between APR USA and APR Australia tunes ..... every tune gets specially recalibrated in Australia to Australian conditions and this costs APR Australia money. No other tuners spends the same on R&D in Australia and it shows in the quality of their products.

APR Australia flies APR engineers out from the USA a few times a year and these engineers then spend days with cars on the dyno fine tuning each tune specifically for Australia. This obviously comes at a great expense and need to be recovered. Nobody works for free ....

If you want to save money, buy a tune from another company that sends a file from overseas that is in no way "made" specially for Australian conditions and live with the result. (And sending logs back at a point in time is NOT R&D IMO). Most are happy with this, I for am not and prefer to spend my money where real R&D for us (Australians) is being done.

As Gavin said, been done to death many times before, always with the same result .....

Australian conditions? Can you please expand on this. I don't quite follow. I run my German designed and built car, which has had no factory consideration for Australian conditions, on European spec 98 Ron fuel. The conditions here are easy on cars. Try cold starts at minus 10 degrees. I smell price gouging which Australians are conditioned to accept.

VW obviously consider Australia different to the ROW. They made 200 special low powered mk4 R32s. Low compression engines not used anywhere else. The Golf R is 188kw not the full power version from Europe. That's some evidence there's something not the same here.

When I go to tune cars and read the ECU, more than 50% of the time it's a new code, never seen by the guys in the UK.

What are you really after, a discount APR tune? Honestly, everytime there's a sale, someone re-invents the rip off wheel. If you don't like the price you don't have to buy into it.

Being from Yorkshire, I can sympathise with you on the value for money aspect of anything bought in Australia. In 2006 I bought an A3 for 16000AUD, enough money to buy 4 of the same cars in the UK at the time.

Do a search and read the previous case for the defence, the facts haven't changed.
