Comparison of different tunes for Golf R

    Hi friends.

I have recently returned from my drive to Brisbane to retrieve my car from BPS chiptek. A little under a month ago I payed to have my car flashed by APR, I was unaware of the results/ power as it is no supplied but it did feel more powerful!

I have with me the results of my APR tune vs stock VW vs BPS chipteks tune they have just completed. Please note the tune was done on the same dyno, on the same day, with the same AT and IT ( please see info of sheets for details) with the same all round temperatures today in Brisbane...a massive 35c !

I am extremely happy with the results and the power delivery has been a massive improvement, this is stage one of many things to come

Any question please ask, I was present for the entire tune.

    Cheers!

Whoa! BPS is clearly dominating that one, torque curve is beautiful! Looking forward to future results.

Nice one; though if you wanted perfection, the boost curve could be improved by better boost valve mapping - looks like you drop about 1.5psi after the initial spike before then climbing back up to a 17psi peak. Boost curve is a little difficult to tune though but it can definitely be done especially if it is a custom dyno tune.

That said, the results are nonetheless impressive; though I find it odd that APR's program seems to start boosting from 4000rpm, perhaps it's for a "feel" fast effect, but even then, at 6000rpm when both programs are near the same 17psi peak, the power difference is huge. I see the temperature was 33 deg; maybe the timing was too aggressive on the APR and hence it was being cut back big time?

Or it could be just an inferior tune.

I have a question jimjaroo. Do they give you any warranty on the drivetrain? Good tuning companies do.

IMO, I see in the graph that the BPS Tune wounded boost too much, most likely disregarding outside temperature and other factors that protect the engine from destroying itself.

Thats incorrect. Only oettinger as far as im aware offer a drivetrain warranty. Are you suggesting that theyre the only "good" tuner?

To me it looks like the APR tune isnt boosting properly. Certainly other APR runs have produced better results than that. Something is not quite right with it. The initial boost spike isnt very big for some reason.

I have a copy of the APR code from that car. The N75 boost DC is what controls the boost I have a picture below showing one of mine. I also have the one that was in the code I pulled from the APR ECU

The lower line represents original DC max out put The upper is the new MAX DC out put, there are 12 of these scalers to control N75 DC actuall boost is measured in air mass. The APR version of this I believe was an error in coding as it makes no sense. I will post the APR code up shortly but now I must head to the dyno cell and finish a Porsche 996TT with upgraded stuff.
