    chipping for a mk 3 2.0

    Hi all.

I know this topic has been raised a couple times by various people, and from what I can tell it's never really been answered.

can you chip a mk 3 (or similar) 2.0??

Say if you were to put a G grind cam, decent exhaust and intakes mods on, are there any chips you can use to get the most out of the upgrades, or do you just rely on the 'fuzzy logic'??

Anyone do it? or have experience with it? or know where else to look?

I have an ebay chip in my ibiza with a 2E motor. That revs a lot better than with the std chip fitted.

I reckon if you look them up, in Greece, off ebay.co.uk. They can do upped rev limits and the like.

but will the ECU handle you bolting on a cam, intake, exhaust??? Will you see the desired outputs?

You can bolt that lot on and it'll make more power anyway due to the increased flow.

The fine tuning won't be as good obviously but the std ignition curve will have all the timing pulled by 5000 revs. So that improvement alone will be worth the small cost of one of those chips. IMO.

It's not exceedingly scientific as a tuning method but far cheaper than paying for a custom map which may get you another 5 hp.

Worth having a look on the rollers after, to make sure it's not gone weak.

Agreed, with the whole ebay chip comments.
There is a compromise, as its not an optimised custom tune but the chip from Greece actually works.
I have a Cupra with the 16v ABF engine. I have one of those ebay chips (from Greece) and it actually worked. I really couldn't believe it at first. Part throttle to medium throttle is where its most niticeable. There is quite a lot more torque there. At WOT the engine made 2 KW atw more (not much at all). However, at about 4500rpm there was something like a 6 KWatw increase in power. So the midrange is really noticeable.

I also tried a Dbilas chip that i got from a member here, but with no positive results at all. In fact less power than stock somehow? Not sure what happened there as the Dbilas website quotes a 13hp increase for my engine.

From my experience, that ebay chip was very good value for money, just as long as you don't expect too much. A custom tune however will always be superior hands down.
