With the turbo going like that the pieces usually don't end up in the motor if you get it quick enough. Its has to travel all the way round the post turbo pipework through the intercooler core and then back up to the intake and through the throttle plate then along the manifold. Usually this whole tract is lined with oily goop from blow by so its helps by letting the chunks stick to the side of the pipework plus the IC core entry usually catches alot too. If your lucky you still have a big job removing every section of the pipework and trying to clean it completely to remove any trace of metal which is almost impossible if the particles are fine.
I've never seen on go that badly not like that anyway. Just get a bastard file onto the front face of the wheel and weld the wastegate shut, should be fine after that.
