Checking fuel pump reqs you to check the flow rate as well as the pressure. My thoughts would be to dyno it and see what the A/Fs are like, also check the pulse width of the injectors. If its pinging wide open throttle thats no go mate thats asking for it to go pop. Pinging is putting serious stress on you pistons, im sure you are having the sense to back off. Remember too that logging is ok but laptops and VCDS are not real time, they are good but can miss heaps. If you have to get right into it dyno and scope is the answer. Chekc the basics first though, fuel filter and plugs. you might want to drop a heat range too while you are at it. At WOT the vac is off the fuel reg so it will also be coming into play, 3.5 bar reg might not be up to it, up it to a 4 bar reg perhaps.

As Jimmy said. It's not easy, but you will see you fuel trims & injectors staying open longer trying to supply more fuel. It's nice to have some data off a healthy one for comparison.

That's great advise but I have no idea who to take it to with any experience in VW tuning on the Central Coast NSW. I may have to travel to get it done.
