Question APR upgrade - what is the difference?

What is the difference between the following and the $1700 APR stage 1 that some people have had? Is is simply installation costs?

    ECU Upgrade [APRMKVIECU] - $599.00 : OEMplus.com, Original Equipment

    or
    Harding Performance

the OEMplus one will be specifically tuned for US spec vehicles, so may not suit local fuels etc

The 2nd link is only for US customers... and US apr prices are cheaper anyway.

I asked APR Australia the exact same question.

    This was Melbourne Performance's reply
"Australia is a completely different & separate market than the USA. Volkswagen America sold 431,000 cars last year, Australia sold 13000 cars, as you can see, the market is different.
We have to develop & test etc here for RHD cars, all the products are not LH & RH drive interchangeable.
Australia has different software across the range & APR comes out here to calibrate for Australian conditions.
    The US dollar fluctuates between 10 & 20 % .
These are a couple of the reasons our pricing is different.
We also support drive days, dyno days and more.
We have a great customer support network throughout Australia for all out APR clients.
As a group we have flashed more than 1 in 5 Mk 5 GTi's sold in Australia."

I just had my MkV GTI flashed for $750

I'd guess it wasn't an APR map.

My reflash cost me $667 (Oct 2009) & it wasn't APR. Just a generic map from the UK. I have no idea how it compares with an APR reflash in terms of performance, peak figures or fuel economy but I'm very happy.
