Apr tune - engine light and misfire - mk6 gti

    The GTI is down..... sorta

Pulling away from the lights today, and it felt like T/C had kicked in. Being dry and a slow take off, I was a bit perplexed and the noticed the engine light flashing. The car was now misfiring and stuttering along slowly dying.

Managed to get over to the left, and switched her off. Turned ignition on to see if any error had appeared on the MFD, and nothing......

Started the car and it was running fine, pulled off again and same thing .... farting and stumbling along.

Pulled over again, and decided to put it into mode 1, standard just in case a tow to the dealer was needed.

Attempted to drive off again, and the car pulled strong and hard, no stumble, misfire or engine light.

Thinking all might be good, pulled up and back into my tune ... pulled off and again, misfire and stumbling.....

My luck, its a Saturday, an no one to assist at the APR dealer. Need the car, so fingers crossed all is good in Standard mode till Monday .....

I have now managed to get a scanner off my friend, but wont get it till tonight ..... hmmm VCDS cable would of been a good idea to buy...

Will see what the fault thrown up his, and hope its nothing critical ....

Ok, So I managed to get a scanner on to it .....

Its not VCDS, but it had 1 error under Engine.

0.3 BAR OIL PRESSURE SWITCH (F22)

I dont see how it would misfire and hesitate due to an oil pressure switch error ..... I stand to be corrected.

A bit of Google searching I think.

VCDS would of been good, might have a better fault definition ......

if it works fine in standard tune, i doubt the oil pressure switch is your issue...

I have now had the issue fixed.

Had the car plugged into VCDS and error - No 4 Misfire.

Number 4 coil pack replaced and all is back to 100%....... after vigorous testing

A Big Thank you to Derek at European Autotech for the help and fix. Great work.

just to confirm - was that error due to the tune itself or not? It seems you didn't take it back to the dealer so the ECU wasn't put back into stock mode?

    Hi Finance_Analyst

I took it back to the APR Dealer, as I was only experiencing the issue in my 98 program. The car was driving fine in my stock program, and I thought there might be a S/W issue.

This was not the case, and Derek explained it all to me and fixed it in no time.

It was a H/W issue, and not a S/W issue.

It's not uncommon for a tune to highlight deficiencies in components that don't appear otherwise.
