    APR stage 3 mk4 gti tune

    hey everyone has anyone done a stage 3 apr tune to a mk4 gti golf?
    if so pros and cons?
    roughly how much and is it worth doing?

    I don't think APR offer the stage 3 for mk4s in Australia? If you're looking to go big turbo I'd suggest heading over to the 1.8t forum on vwvortex. If I was to do it over, I'd probably get a v-band pagparts kit, great quality and about half the price of APR. The main problem with going BT on our mk4s is the pre-historic me3.8 ecus not many vendors offer tunes for them.

    I know a few of the 1.8T's have gone "stage 3" with custom code.
    Gavin is a good operator and is located around Brisbane.

    This. Gavin is about the only guy in Australia who offer support for mk4s past a stage 1 tune. Also has great customer service and knows SO much about vws.

    Not really, we have done quite a few now, using the stock ECU too. The thing is to do it properly takes time and time is $ and not many with 1.8Ts are prepared to pay the same or more as the TFSI engines due to the overall cost of the car vs cost of tune I guess.

    I'm not in Brisbane of course so Gavs options would be the best for sure.

    These ECU's have no map sensor and nor are they capable of monitoring wideband AFR's so its not simple at all. When we do these we try to use a known injector brand and size, a known MAF housing size and a manual boost controller as a cap (the factory boost control is not completely up to it). Doing it this way means you can have a car that not only works well up top but also great to drive at part throttle and in the midrange etc.

    buy sorry Tommy don't know anyone with a stage 3 tune for mk4. Chat with Gavin though he's the best guy in the know and will give u all the options.
