APR prices domestic vs overseas

Hi all I am new to this forum, & perhaps have a simple outlook, but can someone please explain to me why it is that APR, an Australian company, charge their countrymen nearly twice as much for their products as they charge overseas.

I do like their products, but their prices are very high. I would have thought they would look after their aussie brothers, before their international customers. Any comments welcome.

First APR is US based so a lot of the APR gear is imported.

Second it goes through an importer and then a dealer network.

Yes you do pay a premium for the local backup, development and support. There are other options out there, however 95% of them are dealing with overseas tune houses to generate their files.

Thankyou for setting me straight, I always thought APR were an Australian company. I'll do my homework before posting next time.

It's not the first time the topic has come up. In Aus APR is a premium product. They would be the largest tuner for VW/Audi in Australia by quite a long way. You can't compare an internet tune to a local dealer in terms of back-up and support especially if you brick the ECU.

Probably worth adding that HP/APR Australia is also the most professional*/networked setup in the country and obviously spends a fair bit on research and development locally (as well as significant marketing costs). As a result their overheads would be significant and the business needs to return a profit as a full time venture.

* That isn't to dish on any other brands out there - there are pros and cons to all, best served by reading up on the extensive threads on this forum covering off on it.

Part of the "problem" is tat the local guy is being a wage, probably 3 times above the wage the US guy earns. On top of that he gets sick leave, annual leave, long service leave, compulsory super etc etc etc.

Now I assume you get all of these too, and have a relatively decent standard of living, with medicare etc etc etc.

Adding in the local cost of some of the most expensive real estate in the world doesnt help

and all of these costs get borne by a very small marketplace.

and then the cherry on top is the import duties, and GST.

There is absolutely nil point in complaining about local costs.

If you can import stuff, go for it. If not, buy it locally (or not) and accept that Australian business is an expensive business.

I cringe whenever I have to buy locally, but I understand the unfortunate mechanics of it.

Thankyou all, especially Gareth. Your points are all very true & correct, although my employer is currently trying extremely hard to remove most of the rights & entitlements I currently have, with the help the current extreme right wing government we have here in QLD, & at federal level. Please people remember next time you vote, your children may have to endure our legacy, & please don't buy into all the media bullsh*t they spoon feed us. Murdoch & Fairfax media !!!! Sorry about the rant guys, got a lot on my mind relating to work at the moment. I guess I'd better start squirreling away some more money.
