The K&N panel filter will only give you a very slight increase up the top when revving it's tits off...

I agree with what has been said previously, if you are going to change your intake, change it all the way back to the Turbo.

The APR box that attaches to the engine cover does absolutley nothing apart from look nice as it still only draws are from the stock location and channels it down the stock intake, nothing more. For approx the same outlay you can get a complete cold air intake system.

That's only applicable to the Golf R and MKV GTI though.... not the MK6 GTI etc being discussed....

It does apply to the MKVI GTi as the APR box just replaces the standard box and has a pod inside it but still only attaches to the stock intake pipe and still only recieves air from the stock intake in the grill. If you get the 'Stage 2' intake pipe along with the box then fair enough but then it's considerably more to purchase as a whole than the other products.

at best, something like the carbonio will be good because it will allow straight through air with no turbulence, which could permit you to remove the (on the diesels, at least) 22% restrictive maf grid with no negative consequences.

but yeah - intake schmintake. leave the sht as it is - the engineers of these cars know what they're doing.

take the renault clio engine bay for example. lots of turns and twist, from one side of the engine bay to the other, then back again (especially given that it's NA), and yet it STILL dynos more torque and power than a k&n typhoon or similar.

there are many, many, many, many things that we can do to our cars, that in the real world, dont actually amount to sht - it's purely placebo.

probably most aftermarket filters would fall into the "nothing but placebo" category. dont buy a k&n - i've been there. the car's gone back to stock, and it's better for it.

for anyone wanting a good read on just how effective the stock setup is, read here about how most sexy aftermarket CAIs are a great way for you to throw money directly down the shtter

Incorrect still. There is no restriction in the MK6 GTI's pipe behind the stock intake box. The Stage 2 pipe is just for looks.
It's a completely different setup to the MKV GTI / MK6 R where the intake filter is part of the engine cover etc.

You need to be more specific when you're talking about these things, as we're talking differnet engines and different intake setups etc.

Maybe the designers do a great job of designing the intakes but not when they are remapped or modified in other ways....
