APR HPFP Stage 2 Plus Information
Hi guys,
I have recently bought a APR HPFP for my R. I'm still hunting around for a down pipe through the custom route and already have an evoms intake. My stage 1 tune is Revo.
I have a couple of questions about what to expect:
1) Is there anyone on here with an R that is stage 2 plus? GIAC boys and girls I know you don't go in stages but you can still comment about the pump if you have one
2) Where do you most notice the increased power-low, mid, top range? After my stage 1 tune I learnt that the R power even with the tune is more mid then powering all the way up-I guess i want to know if it will stay the same at stage 2 plus or will I get more power down low?
3) Wear and tear on the engine is greatly increased with this mod yes? I have bought the cam follower and I know that needs to be checked ever 10K-anything else to ensure safe operation?
4) This may seem an obvious question but roughly what are you getting from the R tank of fuel at stage 2 plus? I assume the increased and faster delivery of fuel = really really bad fuel consumption?
Thanks for your help guys

1) I've APR Stage 2+ (DP, HPFP, IC, ECU) on my R
2) I'm sure there is a bit of extra power up top compared to S1, but the big changes are low and mid through to the top. Huge improvement over stock.
3) meh
4) I'm getting better fuel consumption than when I started... however my S1 was done at 1500 and S2+ at ~3000 and I'm now at 5500, so the consumption of a new engine drops anyway.
In relation to custom down pipes/exhausts for the R. It seems thus far members have found it hit and miss with the success. Look around the forums and there have been people who have had to go through multiple revisions. So I'm not really sure whether it ends up being cheaper than just buying an APR or Milltek DP or TBE to start with!
In relation to GIAC. I can't recally anyone having done "Stage 2+" for them yet. GIAC has their "Extreme" tune, but it has a specific requirement to use the VF Accessories K04 intake (which requires the removal of the engine cover etc). I know that one of the members will be putting this on their R soon. If you're not after feedback strictly from R drivers only, there are already a few members who have the GIAC Extreme tune on their MKV GTI Pirellis and Audi S3's (same engine), or even MK6 GTI with K04 conversions, and may be able to give you feedback on that.

Thanks Corey R-the whole DP thing is a bummer, I guess when the States gets the R there'll be a lot more options but that's a while away. I love the Milltek but you can't just do the DP and I am not sure I need the extra volume from the sport cat, it might be nice though lol.
What about engine wear-any concerns?

I don't have any engine wear concerns. Use good oil, service it regularly, make sure it's warmed up properly before and after giving it any.
By the time you get to the GIAC Extreme area you may want to consider using the Audi RS4 fuel pressure return valve and line (info came from DeanCorp, who was advised presumably by Lucas of Eurospeed). Water Methanol Injection will also lower combustion temps, reducing heat-soak and keeps valves cleaner at the same time. Clutch upgrades (manual and DSG) will help preserve your clutch if you intend to regularly participate in the traffic-lifts GP or track your car at a local drag strip.

GIAC do have a stage 2+ file, it gets a slight bit less power than the extreme tune. The extreme file is for those that want max power and are willing to buy the specific components. There is a baby extreme file which can be ran without a pump aswell

Thanks Corey R and PeDies,
That's great info. I would have thought for sure it'd be sucking a litre of fuel at every acceleration point with the HPFP lol but apparently not. Ok real dumb question now. By the time i get my hpfp installed it will occur at the same time as the down pipe or tbe but then I will have to drive a good hour to the place for the new file-will this cause any issues or damage?
Thanks again,
-
The changing of the fuel pump has no effect what-so-ever if you don't update the ECU, so you're fine there. The changing of the downpipe (which also changes the catalytic converters) can cause CEL errors (Check Engine Light) to appear. The advice which has been passed on from tuners in the past is to just not drive WOT between getting the DP done and getting the ECU updated.
Depending on the error which comes up, the car can enter into "limp mode". But I don't believe that any damage as such occurs - it's just that the sensors register things they don't expect.

Thanks again Corey R, I think I am well and truly sorted now!
