Mmmm, most people would see a one off jibe as that and not reply to it (with offtopic material that derails the entire thread - as has now happened).

    Nothing new though eh

Anyone who participates in derailing the thread is equally responsible.

And now that's over, back to the topic of the thread, thanks guys.

I apologise for taking the thread off topic, and I did cast personal bait.

I was told to back out by UK HQ, you know that, stop stirring.

    Self banned.

Also in the superchip uk site it says
Before a bluefin can be used on this model, the ECU must be "bluefin enabled." This is a process that has to be carried out with specialist equipment at one of the Superchips dealers listed, from whom you buy the bluefin at the same time.

So does this mean you only remove the ecu once and then using the bluefin controller the ecu can be reverted back to stock during service and then reloaded again without another bench flash??

No, Guy H has said before, he has come across instances where the OBD has become flash disabled during a VW update to the ECU.

Safest not to get your car dealer maintained in my opinion. No chance of that happening then.

I can just plug a box in and read the numbers, vagcom can't do it unfortunately.Globally in our databases I can see that some are still unlocked but I'm guessing our ones here are. With the passats though some were some weren't I've had both.

Oh and yes the dealer can just rewrite the ECU with the same encryption that it had before so it would have to be 'unlocked' or bluefin enabled or whatever once again, so what Gavin is saying is the best option no matter who you choose as really there is no need to go to the dealer anyway unless you had some sort of dealer offered non-VW extended warranty that specified their dealers as the only option.

Personal experience is you want to stay away from the dealers once you start modifying if you are at all concerned about what is left of your warranty.

For what its worth - my dealership is the best service centre I've ever seen!
My only complaint is that they didn't get time to wash the car after a service (one time), but I arrived to pick it up just as it came back from the road test, so thats not really their fault.
