Well Alientech just released a whole lot of new MK6 diesel tunes on OBD that were previously bench, and I currently have "test" OBD tunes for cars like the GTD and bluemotions. Just a matter of time.....

Hey Greg, What sort of gains can be had on a MK6 GTD? With or without down pipe?

Alientech is just the reading and writing tools Viezu, and a lot of tuning companies use at a dealer level, it's basically just an old style modem. The software lets you select a particular car, and all it does is adjust the baud rate amongst other things to "talk" to the car.

These guys crack a car, by working out a route into the programming gate all ECU "chips" have. That is not always so easy, hence some cars remain bench tune, where you have to connect directly to the ECU board, or tuners have to open it up and enable OBD physically - which is the same lid opening risky affair.

The MK6 diesels are limited by the DPF for the time being, so you will get a mid level tune from anyone. On the GTD you will see approx 35hp and 75 nm. Without a DPF you would be able to push more like 45hp and 100 nm plus, but this sort of tune with a DPF in place will prematurely clog the DPF. I currently run a crazy 120nm plus race tune, and my DPF cycle has dropped from approx 800k between regents to 400. It's not something released to the public because of this big downside.

You can't legally put a down pipe on a DPF equipped car YET, as until I perfect it, there is no high flow DPF option available from anyone. You can delete the DPF, I don't offer that given the illegal nature and the other downsides, but currently that is your only "dump pipe" option. VERY obvious mod to risk your new car warranty though, and again not something I would recommend.

Cheers Greg, never really understood what the dpf was just googled it and now all is good. Does this apply to the MK5 as well?

    The 103kW Mk5 Golfs incl. 1.9TDI Mk5 don't have the DPF.

Cheers Miro. I never considered a diesel before but I drove a 103kw tdi with an ecu tune the other day and man did that thing have some grunt off the mark! I imagine the 125kw would be even better.
