YEP stick to 8v
or spend your money wisely and buy a complete 16v as they are different in that they have oil squirters and special pistons etc etc
What sort of mods do i need to do to put a 16v head on my 1.8?
Im trying to work out costs etc. How viable is it cost and performance wise?
Would i be better off working my 8v head, bigger valves etc.
whats the best choice?
cheers.

thanks 8v sounds the go then, i dont want to buy an entire new engine.
Some porting and extractors should see it well, will have to start saving
thanks again
And if some porting and extractors are not enough then do a low boost turbo install. They are cheep and you could probably get away with it for well under $1000 if you already have injection.

A port, some extractors and a cam should make your 1.8 fly.

Hi Static1800,
the cheaper option would be doing a port job on your head (8V) and an exhaust system to suit.
you can get a MK3 exhaust manifold and a mk2 gti down pipe for betterflow.
also don't forget the intake side as well.
for the 8v head get it shaved (if you don't already have hi comp pistons).
...... the next one would be a complete and in good working order 16v; now the cost could vary from here on depending on whether you already have k-jetronic injection or digifant.... if the later then $$$ as you will have to make up an injector rail for your 16v.... either way the 16v will not work at its optimum and you well setup ported 8v will trash it no problem.
the last option of comverting your 8v engine to 16v is costly... you will need the following -> 16v crank sprocket, 16v intermediate shaft/pump drive gear/ block off plate for where the dizzy was sitting, 16v head and cam gear, 16v oil pump (yes it's different), 16v pistons, 16v dizzy/cap/leads, 16v intake manifold, 16v water pipe the one that goes from the water pump to the head... and there are more little bits and pieces not to mention a different accelerator pedal cable..
so there you go after all that look back at option 2 again and it's still won't drive as well as it should as the ignition and fuel is not setup for a 16v.
Thanks for that 16v head seems hardly worth the effort. I found out this arvo that my engine is a 2H model from a 90-92 Cabriolet with the digifant injection.
Im looking at getting some extractors next and nice sports exhaust with it and saving up for the head to get done.
