Very, very tempting! I was really hoping to get my 77TSI up to 100KW but thought that was being too optimistic... Very interested to see what effects the upgrade has on fuel economy (if any)...

How does the upgrade effect VW Warranty and fuel economy? I take it those figures are with the standard exhaust ie just ECU tune?

it's been covered extensively on here before, so i wont go too far into warranty speak... (not telling you to shove off and use ''search'', lol, but search will produce much more comprehensive information than i could provide).

the short of it seems to be:

1. VW are not dumb, they're able to tell whether or not a car's been flashed, so dont make lying to them your main tactic if something does go wrong.
2. VW have to establish that the map/ alterations were responsible for the failure of whatever part goes kaboom
3. they will be thorough in their investigation of pt.2, should you be asking VWA to pay for engine damage
4. honesty is the best policy- before getting flashed, let your dealer know you're thinking about it, get that particular dealer's take on the situation.

i told my dealer straight up that i wanted to get an aggressive tune (for my particular model, which i did). they were really cordial about it, and in fact asked me to go in after the tune so they could do diagnostic readings etc... they were actually really interested as they know that these cars get tuned, but perhaps people are nervous and abstain from telling the dealer / return the tune back to stock map, before service jobs.

and those figures would be just a fettled map - no intake/ cooler/ exhaust.

I asked my VW dealer and was advised that they, based on advice from VW Australia, would not cover engine or gearbox warranty if I chipped/tuned it. So I guess I'll have to wait until its out of warranty. Bummer.

I would have thought that as you have changed the fueling, boost, timing, etc parameters away from factory specs, that it would be up to the owner to prove that their modifications DID NOT cause the problem, rather than the mfr proving they did. This is why some of the tuners take over responsibility for the engine/drivetrain warranty.

I know that when I was speccing-out MTU/Detroit Diesels for airstart units, our warranty was shortened because we modded the ECUs to exceed the standard fuel cut rev limit for 2(?) minute intervals, 3x per hour to a maximum of 4 times/day (it was all logged in the ECU somewhere).

Also, all the other stuff i work with, if we exceed the manufacturers design limits then we're on our own.

I just can't see VWA giving people a free kick for stuff outside of VWs control.
