The DSG box is rated to in excess of 500nm so with a stage one or two tune, you should be fine. Just don't go dumping launch control every two minutes.

Im interested as to the 'obvious' reasons for your hesitation with APR. You can switch tunes very easily and lock others out.

I would love a light DSG tune on mine as i personally think VW's DSG tunes suck. Who changes into 2nd gear at 3kph going up hills....

I drove a Golf R and didnt like the DSG tune, i bought an Audi and thought it was spot on. I bought a Tiguan and the DSG tune sucks.... they pretty much come from the same manufacturer so why cant they get it right on both brands lol

    It is adaptive.

Shift points and shifting speed varies based on use

The so called light DSG tune with aftermarket remaps makes only slight adjustments to this (mainly torque limits)

Anyone model will vary as it changes based on use

7 spd dsg doesn't have launch control and is not rated anywhere near 500nm, more like 350Nm, max on stock clutches.

A guy in the uk I am in regular contact with is running around 340+nm and has some clutch slip, running 11.5sec quarters and 0-100 in just under 5 with intercooler, radiator, intake, exhaust, tune obviously and water/methanol injection.

A tune on a 7 spd dsg car will be fine, especially at stage 1 figures and I would double check with Simon at Viezu because as far as my knowledge goes, the dsg tune only applies to the 6spd, wet clutch gearboxes.

The 7 speed DSG in the Tig is the DQ500 which is actually rated at 600nm according to VW. Also, the Tigs with DSG DO have launch control. Either that, or there's a freaky fault in mine where by when the auto hold and ESP are turned off, manual or S is selected and I accidentally hold my left foot on the brake whilst flooring the accelerator the revs climb to roughly 3500RPM without any clutch engagement until I release the brake at which time one feels like a canon ball.

I think you'll find a majority of the failures are with the earlier DSG units and when the DQ500s have had issues, it's primarily been the mechatronics unit, not the box it's self. Being that the mechatronics unit is essentially controlled via the software you're intending to flash, it might be an interesting arguement to have with VW if it were to come to that.

As for a stage 1 or 2 ECU tune lunching the box, it's unlikely. If through some freak of nature the box it's self failed and it was discovered you had such a tune, VW would have to prove that the tune and it's additional power caused the fault. Given the rating of the box, it'd be a difficult pill for any arbitrator to swallow, as such it would likely go in your favour. Bare in mind this is just my opinion and thinking outloud. YMMV. The biggest issue you're likely to have under such circumstances is the wait whilst they decide who's at fault.

We have tuned hundreds of cars in Australia with the 7 speed DSG - and if you read the forums (Golf 6 section) there seems to be more problems with un-tuned cars than tuned (maybe luck of the draw!).

I have not seen a "broken" (mechanically) DSG in either a 6 speed or 7 speed version. I have seen mechatronics get replaced, mechatronics get updated software, and clutch packs get switched.

We now have the ability to activate launch control & modify shifting parameters on the DQ200, 250 & 500, so if anyone wants anything modified, send me a PM!
