4 Pot Lightweight Caliper in OE size

    Hi all,

I have been running racing brake 2 piece rotors in oe size on the front of my modded gti for about a year. Overall braking ability is better than oe but I've always felt that while the initial bite was good when I step on it really hard for really quick stopping it fees like there is not enough clamping force. So I emailed RB and they are willing to make up an aluminium 4 pot caliper in oe size to match the rotors or even oe rotors for the gti (eg 312x25mm). Does anyone think this will make a difference 4 pot v oe calipers? I already have RB ET 500 pads and braided lines.

Or should I use the Porsche 986 Boxster 4-pot front calipers?

    Cheers

Hi mate, I can confirm that 4 pot calipers on 312mm rotors are brilliant mated with decent fluid, pads, lines and rotors. They just bite so hard and not just initially either. The harder you progressively push the pedal the harder and faster you will pull up. It's like you have to concentrate on how much pedal you use because the clamping force is so controllable but can easily be overdone. So make friends with your rear view mirror

Not to mention the big unsprung weight difference between say the Porsche or Brembo calipers v's stock.

Cheers thanks for that...might be worthwhjile upgrade...what 4 pots are you running?

The weight saving on these RB calipers alone make it worthwhile - just under 3 kg per side including mounting bolts, adapters and pads. That's abut half oem weight : )

That's why I bought new calipers, was not too impressed with the price of 8~10 year old refurbished calipers
(On top of that, wait until you see the postage cost!)

I have a link at home for a place in the UK that sells Brembo calipers for like 500 GBP
