    2012 Tiguan 132TSI 7SP DSG - ECU Tuning

Hi, I've had my new Tig for just over two weeks and am thrilled with it. Such a change from being a long-time Merc C-Class driver. One (slightly) annoying trait I have noticed, is a lag around the 1,700-1,900RPM and it has been suggested to me that a ECU tuning job might fix this.

Several people have suggested APR to be the best at this - though they are expensive at $1,495 for the works. Do I really get value for money here? Bearing in mind, that I am not looking to "race" my Tig, just seeking at bit smoother performance with the extra benefit of more HP and torgue and...............better fuel consumption?

Anyone had any experience with APR Stage I and specifically with 'AutoWerks' at Charmhaven (Central Coast)?

Why is chipping so much more expensive here in Oz than say the USA??? Just curious!

The DSG takes a while to learn your driving style so it may just take a bit longer to adapt.
Alternatively, there is a dsg tune (i believe custom code can do it and a few others as well) that will make it more responsive.

The stage 1 ecu remap makes these things a blast to drive, such a change from the standard car.
I get better fuel consumption when i drive it for those conditions.

Chipping here is more expensive due to our smaller customer base and local support which requires higher overheads than other countries.

I you want value for money and awesome customer support, speak to the guys at DNA tuning, Viezu or GIAC as their customers can't speak highly enough of their experiences. The benefit of APR is the switchable function through the cruise control stalk. Check with Guy Harding first if the new tiguan has tunes available for it through apr.

Hi jsb - i know several people who have had their cars tuned and serviced by Autowerks, and have only heard good feedback about them. I believe Simon is the guy to speak to there. As far as im aware, Autowerks are distributors for both APR and Revo.

As for the tuning, you will need to speak to the relevant tuning companies to make sure they have a tune available for your car. Some of the new cars computers are also encrypted, which makes tuning a bit tricky.

Personally my car is tuned by DNA tuning, and im very happy with them. Not sure if they can tune the Tiguan though - you would need to ask them. Have a look at the forum sponsors section as there are several tuning companies there. If you decide to stick with APR, perhaps hold off for about a month as they normally do a end of financial year sale with 15% off.

We have done quite a few new 132kw Tiguan's - they require the new APR UPD programming tool.

In all honesty, as long as the company is established (look at forums sponsors etc) then you will get a good result.

Autowerks has a good name amongst the Porsche community, and they tend to be pretty picky.

I have Viezu on mine and I am very happy with it. I think they have a tune for it, but as others have said talk to the reps to find out if it is encrypted or not.

It comes down to personal preference and who you want to be dealing with in the end. That, and value for money. They are all pretty good products.

    Thank you!

Thank you to all who have been kind enough to respond to my questions. I am not sure that you have made it easier for me to make a decision - it's back to the books so to speak, but one thing is for sure: I will get a tune done !

Simon from Autowerks did the stage 2 tune for my R plus he also services my car. Very happy with his work plus I have "local" support if anything goes wrong.
