    125TDI tuning??

    Hey!

I was wondering if anybody has any clue on the availability/price/performance of stage 1 tunes in Aus... As well as the requirements for a diesel to hit stage 2; and subsequently - the availability/price of stage 2 tunes in Aus.

I want to get my Octy vRS TDI as quick as possible before I get off my P's - to make a statement about NSW p-plate laws, if nothing else.
Its illegal for anyone with a provisional licence to drive anything >petrol< with forced induction or more than 6 cyl... Which means I could hop straight in a Landcruiser 200 with the twin-turbo V8D... Or an Audi A5 3.0TDI, etc... Audi SQ5 TDI, Audi Q7 V12 TDI... Would you like those in the hands of a p-plater? No? Me either!

I've already got the Carbonio intake, and just awaiting funds and a tip I like before the 3" exhaust gets done.

I wouldn't mind keeping the DPF in the system, until such a time as its vital to remove it.

    Any hints/tips??

    Cheers,
    -Matt!

Plenty of suppliers of diesel tunes, try the usual petrol tuning companies.

Forget the exhaust, go for a tune first - best bang for buck performance mod.
MKV Golf 2.0 TDI DSG Sportline. Just nice.

Just wondering if you are aware that any modification to the car as a P-Plater is illegal?

I'm sure that, if you steer the situation enough and push the right buttons, many car mods could be outlawed or requiring certification. The law can be adjusted the way the authorities want and when it comes to P platers and the safety on our roads with a minmum of fuss.

I am in Victoria as well as you, it is not illegal for a P Plater to modify there vehicle as long as it stays within the law.

i know probably less than 10 P platers that haven't modified anything on there car. they only time they get in any strife is when the mod is illegal... EG Too low, too low ect

from here: P plates & probationary prohibited vehicles : VicRoads

"has an engine that has been modified to increase the vehicle's performance (other than a modification made by the manufacturer in the course of the manufacture of the vehicle"

Means you could get away with suspension and cosmetics, but anything past that (intake, exhaust, tune) are considered illegal.
Mind you i couldn't care less, was just pointing out as you were trying to prove the law wrong.

I am all for these mods

What about all the people who claim an intake has no performance benefit?

Must admit the laws can be funny things, while looking into the lowering limit in SA the other day I discovered coil overs were actually only legal with engineering certification.. can't imagine that happening in more than 1% of cases!

Re the OP, don't know Mysticality personally but from other threads it sounds like he covers a ton of miles each year and is probably a better driver than a lot of full licence drivers.. although in Australia that isn't really saying much.

Only performance companies that offer something for the 125tdi are Oettinger and MTM.

Power increase goes from 125kw and 350Nm to 150kw and 405Nm for MTM and 140kw/420Nm for Oettinger
