    1.8T - Catch can and PCV info

    I'm looking into options for the PCV system and Catch cans.

    My main query is around the operation of the TIP connection in the system. Is the vacuum in the TIP under boost used to help open the PCV system (valve)?

    If not, why do people route it here and not just let it drop somehwere else?

    There seems to be a few different Catch can configs, but many concerns about how much they collect vs. blocking required flow.

    Has anyone routed from the valve to ground / atmosphere? Would this work?

    hi mate.my advice is you dont want to pressurize your sump.oil vapur getting sucked into your is not go for the turbo charger.have a look at you crank case oil vapur system and see.if its getting sucked into the turbo dissconect and put you catch can in and nothing else.let me know how you go.

    I'm not ready to do anything about this yet, but it seems like there are a number of different designs and i don't have a good understanding about how the system works.

    If the vapour coming from the line is nothing but waste gass and fumes, why would it be routed back into the intake system?
    It makes sense that the check valve (hockey puck) is using the vacuum created by spooling to draw out some of these fumes, but the rest is still a mystery...

    If it is waste, why would they not make a reservoir standard and have it emptied at service intervals? Odd.

    its all for emissions, the gas return back into the inlet and are burnt through the stroke, the hockey puck is in place to remove oil particles, but as you can imagine you still get heaps of oil being pushed(especially in boosted applications) back into the inlet, and through your cooler and so on

    i emptied mine not long ago and the result was amazing, cant imagine what all that **** going into clean inlet air wold be benificial

    The hockey puck does not filter, i've seen a cross section of a dissected one, its just a flow valve sorta thing (as I can not clearly describe, better I don't try).

    not filters as such but houses the oil, ie liquid stays at the bottom of the round area gas under pressure activates the spring and enters the inlet but as under boost the oil ends up more pressurized and gets pushed into the inlet

    all i can say is makes me happy to know all the crap i just emptied out of mine wasnt making its way into the inlet
