I’ve thought about it but have only just picked my car up. I’m assuming it doesn’t void the warranty

What makes you think that ? If I worked in VW assessing whether to pay warranty claims or not, finding out a car with an engine problem had a non-standard exhaust fitted would be a perfect excuse to deny warranty coverage. And VW's pockets are much deeper than any individual owner's if the matter went to court.

As the saying goes: "You have to pay if you want to play", and one of the cost you may have to pay for mechanical mods is the possibility of having a warranty claim denied.

I can’t see how removing a resonator, which just removes certain harmonic frequencies from the exhaust, is going to have much of a mechanical impact on anything else. Fiddling with your exhaust doesn’t automatically void the rest of your warranty in its entirety. Making a claim for too much noise might not wash, but if your air con system packs up, it will still be covered. Cause and effect etc. I’ll let any owners, with modified exhausts, who have had warranty claims covered or knocked back chip in.

Unfortunately our opinions don't carry much weight with the people who decide on what will be excluded from a warranty claim.

Anything that could be construed as changing the engine (eg a more free-flowing exhaust may increase power) could be used as an excuse to deny anything in the powertrain (ie engine, gearbox, clutch, driveshaft) and possibly even brakes (more power = more speed = more stress on brakes).

I don't make the rules, VW does. For more info search on VW TD1 warranty and you'll see what I am talking about.

Personally, I wouldn't take the risk, as once VW record a TD1 against your car you will have to argue the case.

TD1 applies to ECU coding. It's not going to flag on a resonator delete, especially when you can buy a Golf R in Europe with a VAG approved and stamped deleted resonator.

If you wish to discuss warranty claims further please open another thread on the subject

Sorry, did I miss the rule that said you were the final arbiter on what should or should not be discussed in this fairly general and wide-ranging thread

If you want to see some discussion on resonator deletes have a look here:
