Haha. Bingo. My R spends most of its days in the traffic to and from work. This is why a GTI has started to get me thinking. Because of the city driving, it *might* entice me to get into a DSG as well (as long as I have a complete analogue car to help keep me sane).

Yes the RS is pretty average - the only interior feature I like is that it has a proper handbrake. I helped my friend drop his seat with the alternate seat base and that vastly improved the driving position but from the interior perspective means that you just look at the cheap plastic from a different angle!

As for mileage, in my manual 7R over 29,000km (mostly in traffic) I have averaged 10.5l/100km

When I was trying to decide what to buy I couldn't get a test drive in a Focus RS, but eventually managed to get a passenger ride from a helpful local owner. It took me all of 3 minutes to decide that it wasn't the car for me.

The seating position was way too high, and the ride (in normal) was too firm by a long way, and when he showed me how rock-hard the "Race" setting was I couldn't believe it ! My conclusion was that it went hard, cornered very well, looked OK ( maybe a bit boy-racerish for my taste, so you can imagine what I think of the Civic R looks !!).

While the RS might suit someone looking for a more hard-core car it was simply not something I could tolerate in normal day to day driving, particularly in traffic where you can't use more than 10% of the available performance.

I am very happy with my decision to buy an R wagon (and I'm even learning to live with the DSG).

My fuel economy has ranged around 10 L/100km so far, but it is early days and I have been enjoying the R's acceleration and cornering a bit more than I will probably do longer term.

If anyone is looking for a bit of "Wolfsburg" bling for their car I recently bought some wheelcaps and valve caps with the Wolfsburg crest. The wolf is in red, but (IMO) they aren't too garish.

Wheelcaps: 4Pcs 65mm Wolfsburg Wheel Center Hub Caps Badge Emblem For VW Golf Jetta Rabbit | eBay

Valvecaps: 1Set Wolfsburg Leather Buckle keychain& Tire Valve caps Wheel Tyre Valve Stem Air Cap Cover caps air dust cap Fit for VW [Black Silver ]

    Notes:
The wheel caps were a bit loose, so I packed them out with some two sided tape (but left the protective film on the outside of the tape so that the caps would slide in to the correct position). They now seem reasonably secure.

The badge was rather indistinct on the leather keyring that came with the valve caps, but I only wanted the valve caps anyway.
