Long time lurker, first time poster. I have owned my blue Wolfsburg wagon since mid December and really enjoy driving it. I drive a lot for work and have already done 7k kms. I saw a few months ago on these forums that someone had their blue wagons wheels sprayed black. Does anyone know which sub this may have been in that included the photos? Would anyone have concerns about sprayed wheels peeling etc in a few years time? Thanks

Has anyone de-badged their wagon tailgate? i think it would look good - remove both the R and wolfy badge

Had the pleasure of picking it up nice and early a couple of days ago! First totally new car purchase and handover I've ever completed and was very enjoyable. Very smooth transaction, as per a previous post lucked into getting it 9 days post landing in Aus and requested it with all the stickers, protective barriers and crap all over it.

    First Impressions:
    - Delivery. Very glad I asked them to leave all the stuff on. It sped up the delivery process by a day or two and it meant no PDI guy was touching the car to wash or glaze it. The amount of dust and dirt on the car despite being handed over to me as soon as physically possible post boat was pretty impressive and its easy to imagine how many swirls and scratches they'd install.

    - Exterior. Car is absolutely gorgeous in real life. Bias level high since its my own baby but totally loving the lapiz blue with the silvery pretorias. Thought I'd be sending it to powder coat grey very quickly but that may be a while down the road now.

    - Transport Blocks. Small tidbit, they happened to leave a small tag in the car (see below) which looks like factory reminding the PDI guys to remove the transport blocks from the front suspension. Something I'd noted to look for in my own inspection but must be a thing they forget a bit if theres a physical tag for it.

    - Break-In. Breaking it in is a bit of a game for me at the moment, yeah yeah drive it like you stole it v baby it v xyxz but my game plan is sub 4k revs with variable revs for 1500km. Finding leaving it in S mode at times is easier to vary the revs as D will always want to shift up until its only pulling 1-2k revs. Wouldn't mind others opinion on it but lets not do the forum thing and debate on the method! Ha ha

    - Dynaudio. Something a lot of guys had been wondering about I've noticed and I guess theres no real answer, its all personal preference. Having an extended test drive in a non Dynaudio and testing my Dynaudio out, my opinion is: at low volume levels I'd say they're actually quite comparable and if you're not really into your audio you won't notice the difference. The stock system is still quite nice to my ears. At higher volume levels or if you're a little bit of an audiophile OH MAN I love the upgraded system. Apparently it gets better? as it gets broken in more too so if you're thinking about getting it or not I'd say its really up to how much you care about audio and what deal you can haggle. My mind is OCD enough that if I had the stock system I'd feel I'm missing out so that was enough for me to tip for the wolfie at the time.

    - Exhaust. Hard to tell as I'm keeping it sub 4k but reading in other places it should open up with more kms on the clock. Slowly learning how to get it to do mini farts and its all very childish but loving the experience. I'm sure as time goes on I'll look at doing the res delete or the Akrapovic exhaust. Akrapovic from VW I'm guessing if it ever comes to Aus will be redonk $$$ so really looking at the res delete.

    - Noises. Fan stays on maybe 50% of my drives, not sure if thats excessive or not but it has been warm. Little beeps and sounds peri start/stop/unlocking the car which is new for me. As Mr T said my car might be catching the driver's seat noise at slow speed stops disease some of the other wolfies are facing.

    - Interior. Came with all the stickers and bits on it which is quite extensive from factory. Good to see. Seats are quite easy to get into a comfy position. Stupidly already have a pen mark on the nappa leather but other than that love it. Thought I wouldn't like the more grey colour but it really does help to break up what is an otherwise very black interior.

    - ACC/TJA. Started playing with it recently and its super cool but also super sketchy until I feel more comfortable. Not sure how to cancel cruise control while its engaged other than tapping the brake so if anyone knows feel free to holler. It works so well I feel my attention getting distracted. The lane guidance will go between green/yellow intermittently so you can't really totally set and forget.

    - Drive. You already know. Amazing!

    Now for the visual bit.

Thought about it but still too much $$$ for me. Ended up settling on purchasing Gyeon Syncro and other bits and bobs from CCP and will be doing it myself in a couple of weekends' time. I feel like I can get at least 50% if not something like 70-80% of the finish the professionals get with their job.

I've dabbled in detailing the other cars at home and once you understand the process its not rocket science. I'm cursed/blessed to be OCD enough to actually enjoy detailing my own car a la Obsessed Garage or Larry at AMMO NYC so it'll actually be pretty therapeutic to do it myself! Save a bit of coin and learn from the experience.

Lapiz blue, great colour, same as mine. As far as picking the car up non detailed with stickers on, really can’t see the point. If your getting it coated they will take any swirls out anyway. As I live in regional NSW, dirt, dust and bugs big and small are a constant pain. Running in, Ive always gone by the mantra, ‘run them in hard, they’ll go hard’ over 40yrs has worked a treat with my ‘company cars’’ and my own - just as long it’s up to operating temp. Everyone seams to think their dealers are crooks or similar, I’ve never had a problem with any I’ve dealt with, I can’t say the same about some of the rip off artists in the motor industry, where they think a customer is someone is to squeezed and lied to. Maybe I have been lucky with my New Car dealers.

Would have to counter with you on that point, I'm sure if you ask any reputable detailer they'd gladly prefer a car that hasn't been washed or touched. Not just from a convenience perspective from them to decrease their time cutting and polishing too! The less clear you're taking off the car the better it is in the long run and that's just my simple brain logic. I know a good detailer will inspect the car and charge you more if its more damaged then if its swirl free. Doesn't really take all that much effort to remove the stuff after at home and its kinda cool to unwrap the new baby!

Also cheers Pizza, just tried it and right on the money.

I’m heading into Mr Detail in Melbourne on Monday, he inspected the car which was not touched by the dealer. Both the detailer and the dealer were quite happy

Yeah to be honest, when I picked up my Wolfy I made a deal with myself that I will baby it until about 1400km. That changed after day 2 or 3 after picking it up. I have pushed it quite a bit. I don't thrash it all the time, because of the infamous Sydney traffic. But at a range of traffic lights waiting for it to go green, I have gone against the recommendations and I have pushed the accelerator completely down on countless occasions. It's just too fun not to.

Also, on a slightly different topic, aimed at everyone, what I have found is that if you leave the engine in race mode (or individual mode with the engine noise on 'race') when you turn off the car, for me the engine noise does not sound as soulful when you turn the car on the next time and drive. Almost as if the valves aren't completely opening automatically when turning on the car next.

I have found a work-a-round for this. When I start the car again, I put it in comfort/normal mode (doesn't matter) and then change it back to race mode about a minute later. Then the engine sound roars again. So many crackles and pops on the overrun, for a good 3 or so seconds after lifting off the accelerator in 2nd or 3rd and large amounts of bass coming from the exhaust. It's a game changer.

And it's a noticeable difference. Anyone noticed this?

Is it because DSG go back to D when you start the car next time? Even you selected race last time?

If that’s the case, another way is to just pull back the stick and change back to S? I think it is same as ‘reselect’ race mode at every startup. Can you see if they have the same sound you look for?

For myself I just use individual, leave almost everything in ‘race’ mode, interior engine sound in ‘comfort’ and just leave engine in ‘normal’. Then I only turn the dsg to S when oil temp hit over 90 degrees and... thrash it..

Ps: mine is wagon so there are no valves, therefore the exhaust note would make less difference. But still, S mode you can hear the noticeable difference from the engine response when flicking between d/s
