R-line perfectly logical, but R-line and GTI are two *very* different things. Taking it just slightly further - does a "GTI" Multivan sound a good idea. GTI and wagon - One of these things ain't like the other one.

Would be happy with a GTI wagon choice, VRS looks good but Skodas backup just to risky for non city dwellers

My local dealer claims they have dropped the wagon from the local lineup. I hope they are wrong as I like my 118TSI wagon and would probably look at a VII if it was available.

If I was after a wagon I'd prefer a passat 4motion V6 wagon. 220kW, 0-100kmh in like 5.6 seconds or something. Similar money to a fully optioned Golf GTI.

Big difference in price between a current GTI DSG and a Passat V6 4Motion. I like the Passat too, but it's currently over $16,000 more expensive than a 4-door GTI DSG (going by RRP), and there's no way a Golf wagon would carry anything like that premium.

This question has an easy answer: Skoda Octavia RS wagon. It's cheaper than a 4-door GTI (like for like transmission), and is better equipped too. Great car. There's likely to be excellent runout prices on them too, now that the new Octavia has been revealed in Europe.

The V6 passat 4motion wagons are advertised on Carsales (new) for between $55k - $60k. A fully optioned golf GTI dsg would go for around $55k. If there was a GTI wagon I'd assume it'd carry a small premium over the hatch which would place it in that price bracket.

Only if optioned to wazoo. Presumably you could also option up a Passat wagon to the tune of $15k+ if you wanted. Either way, they're substantially different sized and priced cars that compete in different markets.
