I don't have a sunroof and the installation was fine. Not perfect - VW got O'Brien to do it - but passable. At least O'Briens method of removing the old screen is apparently better than NRMA

The wipers shudder a little bit now when it's raining lightly (didn't before) and the windscreen feels a bit rough in the middle but it looks okay. I'll have a go at it with a clay bar at some stage

@Lucas_R ohh no not your car

@Jimi glad to hear it's kinda semi fixed but.
I've got to say, I'm not sure who actually put my genuine replacement glass back in but it's fantastic, looks, feels and functions like it was done in the factory.

Oh and anyway that isn't NRMA removing a windscreen is a better way! Bloody people just hack and hack. When NRMA did my very first windscreen replacement they had to call another guy in to help remove the original glass as it wouldn't come out :/ very promising.

Hi I am in Perth, I have a 2014 Mk 7 GTI with a cracked windscreen, would anybody be prepared to recommend a good windscreen repairer. I am hoping to get a genuine replacement.
    Cheers!

I used my insurance to get my windscreen replaced 2 months ago, I called RAC and they directed me to obrien. At first they were about to give me an aftermarket glass, but after a few phonecalls to RAC and obrien, I managed to get the greenlight to get a genuine glass fitted in.

    Thanks Wasabi,
Which Obriens did you use and were you happy with the workmanship?
    Thanks again.

I had the windscreen replaced in my last car by O'Briens Brooklyn just before I got rid of it. They had the wrong screen first time so the guy had to put the old screen back in after removing it. Did a bit of a messy hack job of it, with silicone everywhere and the rain sensor bodged back in.

Once they had the right screen, the guy who came out to fit it was awesome. He was in to his cars, knew I cared about mine and took his time doing a great job. No mess and no poor figment.
Just shows you can get two very different outcomes from the same place.

Just thought I'd update this thread a bit with some hard figures. Golf Mk7 TDI, from the dealer quoted $800ish from Canberra dealer. (The other dealer doesn't do it).

AAMI, paying the difference between their "Australian approved VW windscreen" to the OEM version is an extra $400. Hopefully replacing it next week. *fingers crossed*

Is the AAMI replacement under windscreen replacement insurance?
