Rob Taite in Melbourne is very reluctant to do VWs as he insists on removing trim panels and doesn't like the way the clips break.
I still have no idea why he would need to remove panels - just his way of working I guess.

Just had Oztint in Five Dock Sydney tint my Mk7 GTI. I spoke to half a dozen tinters including a couple mentioned on the forum and checked the spec of the various films they had, particularly the TSER. I really didn't want a basic dye film or anything with a metal layer. Oztint offered the suntek cxp at $350 or $400 if I wanted to include the 2 front quarter windows. They installed this film on my Focus 5 years ago and it is still performing and looking perfect so went for the same again. They fitted me in within a couple of days and more than happy with the outcome.
I had my R tinted yesterday. I was referred to SunSafe in Rooty Hill by 2 separate people (one of whom does film installation for commercial premises but goes to this guy for cars). $200, using SunTek with lifetime warranty, and did the quarter panels. An employee didn't think they'd do the corner windows, but I had a chat to the owner, Lou, who said they'd do them. I can see why many avoid doing them, I watched them do the job - probably took almost as long to do them as the rest of the car. They matched up the rear and front windows really nicely, high quality job.
Sounds good, what type of suntek film did they use and did they put a clear UV type film on the rear windows? I was considering going a little darker than 35% but it worked out ok.

I did ask about the exact tint, but I can't remember the name. But it's non metallic, if that helps.
The problem we had is that the privacy glass is very very green, and we tried a few films from various manufacturers, but none were that green. So they put a lighter tint on the back to help match colour to the front.
Technically it's now darker than legal, but from what I've been told by 4 separate tinters, is that if you darken the front at all, because of how dark the privacy glass is on the back you'll be darker than legal anyway.
I figure I can always take it off if there's a problem.
Yours looks good by the way
Another +1 for Rob at Hunters Hill Window Tint. Good price, great result, he even does the little A-pillar windows (told me his secret).
And another thumbs up for Rob at Hunters Hill Window tint. Great price, great job, great bloke
Been a while since I've posted in here and thought I might ask again - anyone had any luck with anyone from Melbourne?
Still on the hunt. Bit of a gap in the market down here for sure!
