Will we ever see a RWD GTI?

Apologies for potentially silly question, but do we think it'll ever happen?

    If not, why not?

if it happens, there will be much more crashes from the rears stepping out

will never happen in this life or the next unless they find ways to manufacture it cheaper and yet make the same profit at the same prices.

and this is one big reason why people see FWD as very safe cars

but for some people, understeer is awful..

i personally love RWD and AWD more than FWD.

The answer is that it already has happened and it was called the VW Beetle.

There's only about 21million of them made.

Doubt you will ever see a RWD GTI, far more probable a 4WD version.

With VW moving more to electric cars - you may see a shrinking of the traditional engine line.....the golf R being dropped and the GTI gaining 4WD etc

Nope, VAG is all about modular, cross brand, uni-construction, and FWD suits that perfectly.

Should happen in 2018, except it will be made by Alfa Romeo and called the Giulietta. Heheh...

The Golf was designed to be the opposite of the Beetle.
    Front Engined
    Front Wheel Drive
    Water Cooled

FWD also gives a better power transfer, therefore better fuel efficiency.

Alfa are killing it with their designs.

The Giulia Quadrifoglio is a beautiful thing. My favourite of the upcoming sport saloons.
