Thread: Why is 504 / 507 oil so readily available when it should not be used here?

Looking at the original post and further conversations I can see that we do not mention which car/engine is in question. Maybe the confusion comes from that?!?

The above Owners Manual that I have posted is for 2020 TSI 1.4

Now that I was told that I do not have the particulate filter in my car, I'm 100% certain that I'll use 502 00, as per my engine bay sticker and also the manual.

It doesn't get much more convincing than that, does it ...?!

Why are you actually buying your own oil?

The car is 3 weeks old, with 2k Km by now. Already due for oil change ..!

Its against my religion to wait until the 1st service at 15,000Km and change the oil for the first time.

5,000Km is when I change oil on all my vehicles, regardless of manufacturers recommendations. Its been like that for the last 40years, since I had my first car, that's my philosophy regarding this ...!!

Are you taking it in to the dealer or an independent workshop? Or do you come under the "suitably qualified and competent personnel" banner?
Filter and sump plug too or are you sucking it out through the dipstick?

I'm thinking this be you first watercooled VAG product on 15/12 services?

This again is just a repeat of things that have already been addressed multiple times and I am not going to take the time to repeatedly address the same thing, the biggest one being that 504 is not a "higher" grade (502 is not a "minimum"). As I've stated several times they are two different standards for different purposes. I'm not even going to repeat again addressing the rest. Please do not clutter the thread with repetitions of things either already addressed or unrelated. It's clear you don't have an interest in the actual specific topic at hand so please go elsewhere. Again, thanks.
I would remind you that this is a forum where people with different ideas post their thoughts and they dont always agree with yours but still have the right to voice their opinions.

I will say it again that this thread is about a non existent problem as if you use what the dealer says you cant go wrong if any problems arise

If you dont like my replies DONT RESPOND TO THEM Quite simple as it seems most do not agree with you anyway.

Taking it to an independent workshop, I never change the oil without changing the oil filter as well.

Already bought the original VW filter for this car.

Do I need the sump plug too or only the washer? If I need to change the plug, I must admit that would be very new to me //!?

I know it's cheaper. I got my last 2 jugs of valvoline 504/507 for $15/5l.

I never bothered supplying oil for the first service. I was the first Skoda they's done a service on and I didn't want them having any excuses if they got it wrong. Dealer price was $110/4l back then so I did supply my own after that. The buggers never gave back the 1l that was left in the jug!
Anyhoo. Here we are 12 years later with 195k and about to do service #15.

If you have the plastic sump you definitely need a sump plug. I think it's an o-ring seal not a washer and they definetly look a 1-time use (maybe 2 if you are gentle)

If metal, the VW SOP is a new plug every time but most independents just change the washer.

This may (or may not) be the plastic plug. There are a few types with various tool requirements (torx, triple square, allen head).
They are ~$10 each from RUN Auto Parts. Probably GBP2 in the UK and who knows what from your local VW dealer

    Bunnings of all places!
Supercheap had a special on (40% off?) and I got Bunnings to "beat it by 10%" and Valvoline had $20 per jug cash back by redemption. I bought 2x 5L as that was all Bunnings had on the shelf. This was some time this year (march??)

OzBargain is a great place to monitor oil prices
