    You missed the point a) in the heading of the alternative oil column.

    Australia use fixed services. QI4 in the first page of the service book. See the middle column for fixed services. It says 502. The alternative says 504 but there is a point a) at the top of that column. The matching footnote for point a) reads:

    "Alternative engine oil specifications may only be used in fixed services QI1, QI2, QI3, QI4 and QI7, and only when fuel of a quality compliant with EN 228, or fuel of an equivalent quality, is available in the particular country"

    EN 228 specifies 10ppm sulphur. Australian fuel does not even come close to complying with this. Australian sulphur limit for 95 and 98 RON is 50ppm, 5x that of EN 228.

    Take it up with VW, not us We do what it says in our service book and my car says use 504/507 so thats what it gets

    We have a brand new 2020 Alltrack 132TSI. There is nowhere in the supplied manual/supplement or service schedule that mentions the oil standard ie 504/507. It does mention that for emergency top ups 502.00 can be used (max .5l) VW recommends Castrol oil in the manual. Castrol recommends EDGE 5W-30 LL. VW standard 504 00/ 507 00. Thats what is going in the car when we have the oil/filter changed at 1500k's as an extra service. The thought of leaving the factory fill oil/filter in until the first scheduled service at 15,000k's is a little beyond my mechanical sympathy.

    All diesels are spec'd with 504/507 since 2004 in Australia, with the exception of a couple of specific engines.

    Bear in mind, the book is not specific the Australian market.

    Worth noting that 504/507 oils are rated for 30,000km drain intervals, however the service intervals for Australia (besides the Crafter), are 15,000kms, or 12 months.

    It's QI4 fixed 15k interval. Manual says to use 502. I've sent an enquiry to VW Australia asking what the go is and if in fact the recommendation is now to use 504, if they can supply me with a supplement for the owner's manual.

    Sounds like a good course of action.
    I don't know anything about what service regimes apply to what vehicles. All I can do is check the PR codes and report what the factory specification is.
