    Whats wrong with my wipers!?

    Hi Guys,

Brought the MK7.5 GTI about 1.5 months ago, brand new. Love the car, but, what's up with my wipers? Will VW replace them under warranty? Or, is this normal for a new car? This is the first time I purchased a brand new car. Rainy days in Sydney, this is driving me crazy.

Are you talking about the streaks?

Has there been any protection product been applied to the car?

I'd be getting out some windex and giving the outside a good clean. Quite possibly there's residue on the glass which is making the wipers not as effective.

I dont see the problem. The only issue i have with my wipers is that when set to auto they just seem to have no idea what so ever what they are doing (eg they go flat out when it is only sprinkling). Was the same with my 2x Golfs and now with the Audi.

Does the sensitivity adjustment (sliding switch on top of the right hand control wand) not make any difference at all ? It does on all 3 of my VAG vehicles. It's not perfect, but it does help slow it down (slide switch towards the door) or speed it up (towards the steering column).

Re smearing on OP's new GTI: looks like there is something on the glass or wiper blades to me. If I need to really clean my glass I apply (wet) Avon Metal Polish with a wet paper towel, and rinse off thoroughly (don't let it dry out at all).

Not normal. Mine were and are still perfect after 12 months. Only time mine look like that is when the winds pick up a thick sea air and smear it over my car as I drive.

I'd say you have something on the blades and/or windscreen, perhaps even in the washer fluid.
I start with the screen and blades. give them a good clean with auto glass cleaner, if that doesn't help move up to something like isopropyl alcohol, it'll cut through most greasy muck.

Other than that. at only 1.5 months, might be worth getting the dealer to have a look. Someone might have messed up your wash fluid. If so, let them flush it.

Your not alone, I had this very issue with my 2015 MK7 it's a common enough issue.

I replaced my OEM blades with Bosh Aerotwins and can recommend them. Big improvement on the originals and still on the car.

Have a read of this thread: Windscreen Wiper Issues

I've also posted in the existing thread.

Well for a start you’re running them with insufficient water on the screen. They’ll always smear when the screen isn’t wet enough.

6 weeks old will be a warranty issue. The screen probably needs a good clean and the wipers probably have a build up of gunk on the edge.

Clean the blades with Mentholated spirits just put some onto a piece of clean cloth .put the blades into service mode so you can turn them around or push the button on the side and remove the whole blade ,

Put Rain-X on the screen and almost never use the wipers...
