What car did you have before your Mk7 Golf and how would you compare the two?

2013 - downsized to a 2013 VW Golf Highline from a 2008 Falcon G6E - been almost a year!

2010 - a 2008 Falcon G6E

The Falcon and Golf are very different. Large rear wheel drive compared to small front wheel drive. 13-14 l/100 kms compared to ~6.5 l/100 kms in the Golf. The G6E - cream leather, sports tuning and suspension, iPhone integration, massive grunt - the Golf has get up and go and is more fun to drive. Every button in the G6E with a name or symbol worked, unlike the Golf. The golf's tendency to spin wheels from a standing start occasionally is nothing compared to the rear wheels on the G6E (says nothing about my driving style!). Did take a bit of getting used to the Golf's size (and still getting used to DSG) but better for my daughter on her L's to drive compared to the G6E - her driving style = ~4.9l/100 kms in the Golf. Loving the Golf, and would recommend a run up Clyde Mountain for anyone in the South Coast region as the Golf handles it soooo well.

Looks like you've had a slew of big, dumb Aussie cars... You'll love the Golf in comparison. I had a 2007 Commodore VE and the Golf is literally 100,000 times better

Previous car was a luxury euro accord. A great car that's comfortable and handled well for the size. The engine is also pretty sweet with a nice note as you get the revs up. Trouble free until it's 8th year (alternator) I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. I believe it won wheels COTY 2007.

Our MK7 GTI is a different beast. I love the different personalities. Wife can do the school drop offs and shopping runs in comfort and I can have a bit of fun with it on weekends. Solid build. Impressive fuel economy.

Going further back:
Mitsubishi FTO - looked great, handled well enough. Got a bit rattly but that 2L V6 that redlined at 8k rpm was insane.

The Accord Euro still looks fresh today despite being a design that's 10+ years old, something that it funnily enough shares with its actual European cousins. Highlights how far Hondas styling has faded.

Interesting that quite a few of us have shared common drives over the last 15 odd years.

Yes indeed. My last car before my Mk6 was a 2005 Accord Euro (CL9 - the first series). Fantastic car, but with a very different character to the GTI. I still miss it.

Ditto, in fact mine happened to be a 2005 as well. Again funnily enough in the dark grey which is not pretty close to CSG - there's one parked one space down from me at work each day. I had the Luxury model which came with those nice OEM 17 inch wheels which they later decided to put on the cheaper 'Sports' model and went with a much more boring wheel on the Luxury. Was a very comfortable cruiser and didn't handle too bad either.

Those '05-only Lux rims were great. I had a base model manual, but retro-fitted fogs and a few other things. Tried to get my hands on a set of the 05 Lux/Sport rims, but no-one was willing to sell. Ended up picking up a set of the plainer style 17s from the '06 Luxury instead.

I had an EK Civic in the same red before the Euro.

As for the new Civic hatch... Honda clearly have issues.

Yeah the current civic hatch does look strange but I kinda like the look of the Type R models.
