word is you can still fit the tyre if its one of those skinny ones and you put the spare cover in the top position, .I think they (VW) have discontinued that model Helix and are now selling the unit that is a long box that fits in the boot. I purchased one and they sound fantastic, its an easy DIY job and only takes a couple of hours. You do need to program the box ,VW say its predone for a golf 4 door but mine was set for a Jetta, after trying all the settings I went with 13 which is for a Polo !
Links for both plug n play sound systems with installation instructions, and euro pricing.
have to match up the english instruction with the pictures in the german instruction

Plug & Play Soundsystem Kofferraum 000051419C > Volkswagen Accessories - Vorsprung durch Technik
So are these available in Australia?
yes I got mine in Adelaide and the parts guy had no idea what it was! but said they had 30 at head office - $650 for the box and $842 for the round one, I can rent you the programming dongle, there's a couple of how to videos on YouTube

My dealer specifically said it's the one that fits in the spare wheel space and not the box one. I want the one that fits in the wheel.
I have seen photos of the helix sub fitting on top of the spare wheel for the GTI but I believe this won't work for the R due to there being less depth in boot because of the all wheel drive system.
I also heard as well that the round sub was discontinued but my dealer specifically checked with the spare parts team on what was available for for the 7.5 R, and they did say it was the circle one. I just hope it's a new model similar to the dynaudio sub. I would be more than happy with that.
Also I wouldn't have a clue about installing the system, I'd be too scared once I get to plugging the cables into the HU. I'd rather just my dealer do it, that way I'm covered properly with warranty.
He hasn't gotten back to me though. I'll check in with him next week.

So I have been advised that the mk7.5 sub kit fits inside the spare wheel like the dynaudio system and I won't lose the spare wheel.
This is great news. He will send me info next week. So i reckon I will get this instead of gutting my car to retro fit dynaudio.
I will share details and specs once I have the info.
2017 - Golf R 7.5 - Blue - DSG - Proper Roof - DAP - Res' delete - Dynaudio delete
2008 - Mazda 2 - (Maybe my first child scared me a bit) -1998 - Wrx (modded up to but not including forged pistons)
1988 - Corolla TwinCam - (couldn't insure a 323 Turbo)
1967 - Tonka Tip Truck - Red with 2 inch plastic rims and a massive sand scoop.
Yeah I am keen to do this on my Mark 7.5 Golf R - so please keep us updated
